The Series II Jaguar XJ and Daimler Sovereign introduced a wide range of updates over the original model and included two-door coupés, which were made for just two years. Only around 1,700 of these vehicles, built on the shorter wheelbase, were Daimler examples. An even smaller number became Avon-Stevens convertibles, making this 1977 example, which was converted in 1987, a very rare car – just one of eight such Daimler Sovereigns.
 
The seller has owned the car since 2023, following a period of use as a wedding car and then several years in dry storage. The seller states that the car was recently displayed at a 'Simply Jaguar' event at Beaulieu, where “it received a lot of attention as one of the rarest cars there”.
 
The exterior of the car is finished in a deep shade of red, which it acquired at the time of conversion. The underside has, says the seller, been “comprehensively rust-proofed including injected cavity wax”. The leather interior is original, in biscuit colour. Both exterior and interior would benefit from some attention to remove signs of wear and tear.
 
The seller states that the car is reliable and drives well. Upgrades include HS8 carburettors with manual choke (in place of original HIF7 items), an electric fan (in place of viscous) and a performance stainless steel exhaust. The car comes with various receipts and MOT certificates, plus valuation certificates, dating back to the 1990s.
 
This is an attention-grabbing and rare car of historical interest, which would suit any Jaguar enthusiast – especially one with the opportunity to spend a little time and effort improving some cosmetic points to add value. The car is described by the seller as “a pleasure to drive, either with the roof up in 'pillarless coupe' style, or top down with the wind in the hair”.
