The Appeal
MG wisely chose not to mess with a winning formula, except when it had to. The most notable change to the later ‘rubber bumper’ cars gave them their name, but it was also a chance to improve many other aspects of the car, including quality, ride and interior trim.
Many of these updated cars have been converted to chrome bumper aesthetics, giving buyers the best of both worlds. This car is one of them. Looking very smart in dark British Racing Green with bright chrome and tidy wires, it is a really pretty car that has been cherished by its current and previous keepers. It is only for sale due to a change of circumstances.
We are told that the car was restored and repainted around 20 years ago. More recently, within the last four or five years, the vendor understands that it has had a new clutch. The current keeper bought the car in 2023, intending to keep it. With that in mind, he invested in some updates and improvements, including new fan and relay, spark plugs, washer reservoir and pump, electronic ignition and new seat belts. Immediately prior to sale it received a full tune up.
The car is, of course, MOT exempt by age, but there is a useful recent test from May 2023 that contained no advisories. The car has covered less than 500 miles since.
A well-sorted, cherished B is a rewarding and easy-to-own classic. This one looks particularly good.
