The Appeal
With so many T1 and T2 campers modified to dial up the quirk and retro style, it is a welcome change to discover a van like this one that remains largely standard. In its simplicity and originality, it is the equal of all those heavily evolved alternatives.
This LHD T2 arrived in the UK in 1985 and has had just four keepers in the intervening 41 years. The current keeper acquired it in 2018 and has used it for regular long holidays, including a return trip to Barcelona. Unlike some T2s, it is suited to those sorts of distances because it is fitted with a 2L engine. Since acquiring the van, the vendor has invested in bodywork improvements, a new bumper, a replacement battery, brake overhaul and fuel system repairs. It has also bee fully rewired and professionally undersealed.
This work has contributed to the van’s condition in the photos, Painted classic orange with white roof and bumpers, it is a really smart and usable van. It is well equipped too, including the large pop-up roof and well-stocked cabin with beds and kitchen equipment.
To add transparency and reassurance for buyers, there is a lengthy, voluntary MOT valid to February 2027 with no advisories.
The vendor says:
“I love driving it. Forces you to slow down, but because of the 2-litre engine, it’s not too slow. We are selling it because we are expecting a baby soon, and sadly don’t think we will get to use it as much as we used to. We created our own user manual for when family/friends used it. We will leave it with the van so you can see how to operate switches, radio, open the roof etc.”

The vendor says:
“Built in 1977, and first registered in the UK in 1985 We purchased the van in 2018 from a car enthusiast that had just been using it for day trips with his grandchildren. Drove it to Barcelona, Spain, and kept it there for 1 year. We then drove it back to the UK in 2019 when we moved back, and have had multiple trips around the UK. It has been put into storage over winter, and during the summer it is kept on a driveway with a cover. We have the original instruction manual (in both English and German) and original brochures for the camper. The brochures are great to look through. You can see where the original owner selected the paint colour! It has the original service book, which is stamped from 1977 to 1989, at which point it had done 36,248 km. We then have work receipts for the following years: 2001, 2003, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2024, 2025. It had its last MOT in February 2026. Main work we have done since we have owned it: panel with rust repaired, brakes replaced, leisure battery replaced, full rewiring, back bumper replaced, fuel lines and filters replaced, gearshift brushes replaced, van undersealed.”

“We think it is the original interior. We have not done anything to the interior as it all works well and is very practical..
“It has the original service book which is stamped from 1977 to 1989, at which point it had done 36,248 km. We then have receipts for work that has been done on the van in the following years: 2001, 2003, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2024, 2025. It had its last MOT in February 2026 Main work we have done since we have owned it: panel with rust repaired, brakes replaced, leisure battery replaced, full rewriting, back bumper replaced, fuel lines and filters replaced, gearshift brushes replaced, van undersealed. Engine starts well. Needs some revving in colder weather. 2 litre engine, so packs some power. We have done some long days in it, and it hasn’t let us down! Only time we have had to call a breakdown company was due to a flat battery. The leisure battery was dead, so it was drawing too much power from the car battery. The leisure battery has recently been replaced, and we have had no issues since.”
