The Appeal

Now regarded as one of the most iconic utility vehicles to date, the Jeep CJ series’ lineage traces all the way back to World War 2, when the vehicles were initially produced to meet Military demand. Later, the Jeep would be produced for the Civilian market, with the 1945 Willys Jeep becoming the very first mass-produced civilian 4-wheel drive car.
The CJ7 platform would be released much later down the line in 1976, and is one of the last releases from the CJ series. It is often regarded as somewhat of an end to the era initially started by the Willys Jeep and as such, holds quite a strong following. The CJ7 also remains incredibly capable to this day and continues to appreciate as time passes.
With tidy examples of these rare Jeeps now rather hard to come by, especially here in the United Kingdom, this is a fantastic opportunity to obtain a superb collection piece.

The History and Paperwork

  • Restored example
  • MOT until August 2023
  • V5C document present
As you would expect for a now 43-year-old vehicle, this CJ7 certainly has plenty of history behind it, with 20 former keepers noted on the V5C. Prior to arriving with the current keeper in 2016, this Jeep was beginning to show significant signs of its age and was in need of some love.

Being an avid enthusiast of the platform, the current keeper happily rose to the challenge and gave this Renegade a new lease on life. The vehicle received an overhaul, fresh respray, tasteful modifications, and some very desirable styling tweaks. Now, the vehicle presents itself in fantastic condition and is ready to be enjoyed by the next lucky keeper for many years to come.
As is often the case with vehicles of this age, there isn’t a tremendous amount of paperwork present. In fact, the only notable paperwork included with the vehicle is the V5C document, and a collection of previous MOT certificates, which help verify the mileage within recent years.
Also included alongside the paperwork, however, are a bikini top, 2 sets of doors (1 refurbished but not built up, and one that is yet to be restored), a full unrestored hard top, the original steel wheels, original clocks, lights, indicators and hood sticks. The vehicle also includes a full roof and sides, which are yet to be fitted to the vehicle, but do show storage marks from a previous owner.

The Interior

  • Waterproof reclining sports seats
  • Bikini top included
  • Hard top included (unrestored)
  • Full roof, hood sticks & sides included (storage marks)
  • 2 sets of doors included
  • Oil pressure gauge & voltmeter
Although the focus with a Jeep tends not to be on the cabin, this example boasts a surprisingly comfortable and well-equipped interior. Perhaps the most notable improvement fitted by the current keeper, is a pair of reclining sports seats, which are both water resistant and incredibly comfortable.
Having hardly been used, both front seats are in excellent condition, with hardly any noticeable signs of wear. The rear bench follows closely behind, although it would appear to show ever so slight discolouration when compared to the fronts. Regardless, the seats remain as functional as ever and are surely a welcome improvement over the originals.
In keeping with the minimal and practical theme, the dashboard consists of a snazzy switch panel for all essential controls. There’s also an oil pressure gauge and voltmeter to note, alongside the speedo and commemorative badge.

The Exterior

  • Resprayed exterior
  • Previously restored
  • 16” 5-spokes
  • J.W. Speaker headlights
  • Original wheels included (4 of 5 require restoration & tyres)
Now sporting an eye-catching coat of orange, this Renegade has certainly been given a new opportunity to shine and looks absolutely fantastic. It’s a colour that really does pop in the sun, revealing a tremendous amount of flake and flashes of yellow.
Although very difficult to notice and hardly detrimental to the overall finish, there are a few minor defects to note. In addition to a few of the expected minor front-end marks, there are also a couple of small marks noticeable around the vehicle, such as a black scuff to the front right wing. There are also a few easily rectifiable chips and finally, a small blister to the tailgate. As previously mentioned, these are incredibly difficult to notice upon regular viewing.
Complementing the vivid orange paintwork are black details and a set of black 16” 5-spoke alloy wheels. Presented in a glossy finish, the wheels are in fantastic condition, with only the most minuscule of marks. In true Jeep style, the wheels are wrapped in a meaty set of BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain tyres with plenty of tread left to enjoy.

The Mechanics

  • 4.2L straight-six
  • 3-speed automatic
  • Drives brilliantly
  • MOT until August 2023
Buyers will be pleased to know that this Jeep Renegade fires up right away, and happily performs exactly as intended. The 4.2L AMC straight-six provides ample power for the little Jeep, emitting a rather pleasing yet subtle exhaust note when under load.
Although not a great deal of paperwork is present with the car, the advisory-free MOT history since the vehicle’s restoration is a brilliant representation of this Jeep’s overall health. To conclude, this CJ7 also has a valid MOT until August 2023, for extra peace of mind.

Summary

This CJ7 presents a fantastic opportunity to obtain a restored example of one of the most legendary Jeeps of all time. As a result of the current keeper’s attention to detail, the vehicle now performs exactly as intended, and shows off an excellent finish both inside and out.

If you’re looking for a quirky, attention-grabbing Jeep to add to your collection or use as a fun weekend toy, there certainly aren’t many examples as impressive as this.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
