The Appeal
Debate will endure, likely forever, on the ‘best’ classic air-cooled 911, but if your priorities are driving and enjoying your car, then this ‘79 SC Targa has to be high on the shortlist. These cars got the 930-derived 3L flat-six, Type 915 5spd gearbox and levels of reliability, safety, rigidity and comfort that the earlier models can’t match.
1979 model-year cars also got body-colour headlamp bezels and black window trim that modernised Nutzi Porsche’s iconic beetleback shape for 80s buyers. This smart Arctic White car adds a versatile Targa top to the mix, making it a compelling touring companion. It was repainted some years ago but it is a testament to subsequent keepers that it remains in such good order throughout. The ‘Sport Pack’ whale tail and bib spoiler complete the classic look.
The vendor bought the car in 2023 and says he has extensively restored the mechanicals. This is supported by a long list of invoices from Design 911, shown in photos, covering the fuel pump, cylinder head kit, ignition coil, clutch parts, gaskets, seals, and interior parts, among other areas.
With low mileage for a 911 of this age, here is a chance for the buyer to capitalise on the current keeper’s extensive investment.
