The Appeal
All good things must end, and so it was that in December 1979 production closed after two decades on MG’s venerable diminutive sports car. To mark the end of production, 500 of the last cars were finished in Gloss Black with Rostyle wheels and other detail features. Known as the ‘Black Batch’ cars, these limited edition models are arguably the rarest and most notable of the Midget’s long run.
This 1980 Midget is car 417 of those 500 and the 107th from last car ever built. It is a really well-presented example that retains its limited edition features, including the dashboard plaque. The provenance is confirmed by a BMIHT certificate, which you can check in the photos.
The history file shows sparing use but regular attention to replacing new parts as required. Nicely presented, in great condition and with that distinctive provenance, this is a treat for enthusiasts of these perennially popular cars.
