The Appeal 

Initially conceived as small economical family transport, Alfa Romeo’s AlfaSud quickly established itself as one of the sweetest handling cars money could buy.  Featuring a low-mounted boxer engine, front MacPherson strut suspension and inboard disc brakes, the little AlfaSud was gifted with great natural balance and dynamism from birth. 
The example we offer here for auction has been the subject of extensive restoration and modification in recent years with the aim of producing the ultimate AlfaSud. Featuring a 1.7-litre engine from an Alfa Romeo 33, together with various suspension and brake upgrades, this really is an AlfaSud capable of delivering next level driving thrills. 
With its unmistakable raspy boxer engine and gorgeous classic styling, this highly modified AlfaSud will be sure to turn any trip, however mundane, into a joyous spirited adventure! 

The History and Paperwork 

  • Supplied with new 2-year APK (Dutch MOT equivalent) 
  • Recent documented servicing work by AlfaSud specialist Martijn Goorden at a cost of over €3000  
  • Total restoration costs reported at approximately €15,000 

The Interior 

  • Classic 80’s AlfaSud interior in dark plastics with period dashboard and lovely original sporting steering wheel 
  • Drilled aluminium OMP racing pedals with typical placement of Alfas of this era 
  • Fabulous 5-speed manual gearbox  
  • Fitment of full roll cage by current owner as he originally had the intention to take the AlfaSud racing - removable if so desired 
  • Front seats replaced by items sourced from an Alfa Romeo 33 Quadrofoglio Verde  
  • Removal of rear seats 
  • Centre console featuring a bank of simple toggle switches and essential gauges 
  • Space for a stereo system however we’re sure the Sud’s own glorious soundtrack would better anything a radio could produce! 

The Exterior 

  • Following a total strip down of its body any areas of the AlfaSud requiring repair and welding were fully addressed 
  • Subsequent to this work the car was treated to a new coat of lovely Grigio Grafite which presents today in a great condition 
  • Body panels appear straight with good panel gaps and without any evidence of visible corrosion or bubbling 
  • Satin black exterior trim and grill presenting in good condition 
  • Fitted with attractive new-old-stock chrome Series 1Ti bumpers front and rear 
  • 4 new-old-stock front headlights with replacement indicators 
  • Great looking 14 inch alloy wheels shod in a new set of Pirelli Cinturato tyres with excellent tread 

The Mechanics 

  • Reported to be the subject of a total spend in the region of €15,000 
  • Extensive mechanical upgrades further improving performance and handling 
  • Engine upgraded with a 1987 1.7-litre 8V boxer unit from an Alfa Romeo 33, fitted with 2 revised double Dell ‘Orto carburettors 
  • Renewal of all gaskets, oils seals, belt tension rollers and belts 
  • Ventilated front disc brakes fitted from an Alfa Romeo 33 1.7 - 16V 
  • Alfa Romeo 33 suspension also fitted to the car with numerous replacement parts including: Koni Yellow shock absorbers, Red OMP springs, Teflon suspension ‘rubbers’, strut bearings, Steelflex brake lines and ball joints 
  • Fitment of a new radiator 
  • Recent documented invoice for work by well-regarded Alfa specialist, Martijn Goorden at a cost of over €3000, including valve adjustment, carburettor overhaul, brake and fuel line replacement.  
  • Customised exhaust system and open air-filters
