The Appeal

Introduced for the 1978 model year, the BMW 635CSi was the North American and Japanese variant of the much-loved E24. Robustly built, and arguably produced during a keystone period for the company, these angular Bracq designs are loaded with period character - married up to the much-respected M30 powerplant.

This 1981 BMW 635CSi presents a tantalising opportunity for any classic BMW enthusiast looking for their next project. Imported from the USA in 2020, the bodywork, suspension and engine are all reportedly in good solid order - offering a dedicated restorer the perfect base to start from.

History and Paperwork

Built in 1981 for the US market
Sadly we've not been informed of much regarding its history here
Imported from the USA approximately three years ago
Housed in a heated showroom since import
Seats have been retrimmed
Gearbox was replaced with a 4-speed example to allow movement of the car
No other modifications have been reported
All customs procedures are completed and import taxes are paid. No additional fee's for European buyer

The Condition

Bodywork is carrying surface rust and faded paint
Scuffs, scrapes and chips across the vehicle
We note some larger areas of corrosion, though these are reportedly non-structural
We note some traces of moss to the rear bumper
Original alloys, shod in Federal tyres
Underside is reportedly solid, but does have visible corrosion
Interior in fair order with some restoration required
All instruments appear present and correct
No radio unit fitted
Front and back seats recently re-trimmed in high-quality leather
Headlining requires replacement

The Mechanics

Original M30 I6 powerplant
Gearbox was in poor condition and recently replaced with 4-speed version
Suspension remains in original condition and is reportedly in good order
However, car is presented as a project and will need attention before hitting the road proper
