The Appeal
The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the most instantly recognisable sports cars of the 1980s, renowned for its futuristic styling, distinctive gullwing doors and, of course, its starring role in the Back to the Future film trilogy. Conceived by former General Motors executive John DeLorean, the model was produced for a brief period between 1981 and 1983, with approximately 9,000 examples leaving the factory before the company ceased trading.
Perhaps the car’s most distinctive feature was its unpainted stainless-steel bodywork, though it is understood that around 900 examples were authorised by the factory to be finished in paint. This car is one such example, presented in striking red and offering an even more dramatic interpretation of Giorgetto Giugiaro’s iconic design.
Having previously benefited from a body-off chassis restoration, this DMC-12 is now ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian. Whether displayed at marque gatherings, classic car events or simply enjoyed on the open road, it is a car that continues to attract attention more than four decades after its introduction.
