1982 Fiat 124 Spider

Highlights

  • Powered by Fiat’s 2.0-litre Lampredi twin-cam with Bosch fuel injection
  • Previously subject to an Abarth-inspired restoration
  • The vendor informs us that everything works perfectly and the car drives impeccably

The Appeal

With bodywork by Pininfarina and the inimitable Lampredi twin-cam under the bonnet, it’s no wonder the Fiat 124 Spider was so successful. At the hands of Abarth engineers, it proved an immensely capable rally car and this 1982 example celebrates those successes with an Abarth-inspired restoration.
Presented in very good condition and reportedly in fine working order, this 124 is a great specimen that is enhanced by Abarth-style Cromadora alloy wheels, auxiliary spot lamps and the removal of the bumpers.

The History and Paperwork

  • Accompanied by  numerous invoices for parts and servicing
  • Paperwork detailing an alignment check and adjustment
  • Valid Contrôle Technique
  • Registered in France
  • Carte Grise present
  • Regularly serviced by a classic Fiat Specialist
  • An older restoration is holding up very well
  • Acquired by the current owner in 2017
  • Garage stored under a cover in present ownership

The Interior

  • The vendor informs us the seats were reupholstered when this car was restored
  • All the upholstery and trim looks to be in very good condition with some light wear
  • Very few signs of use to the rear bench
  • Equipped with electric windows
  • Panasonic cassette deck
  • MPH speedometer (with KPH script as well)
  • There are a few small marks and nicks to the centre console
  • The veneers present well with few blemishes
  • All the instrumentation would appear to be in good order
  • The vendor informs us that all the switchgear works exactly as it should
  • The brown carpeting exhibits minimal wear
  • We enjoy the tactile nature of the wooden gear knob and wood rimmed steering wheel

The Exterior

  • Very presentable silver paintwork
  • Straight bodywork with no obvious signs of corrosion
  • The vendor points out a scratch in the offside front wing, but otherwise the paint is really smart
  • A luggage rack at the rear is a useful accessory for longer road trips
  • The soft top roof appears in really good shape and the vendor informs us that it operates faultlessly
  • We enjoy the de-bumpered look and note the front indicators have been moved to where the bumper was formerly mounted
  • Sits upon Cromadora alloy wheels which really look the part and are a nice nod to the Abarth cars
  • Appears to be very sound underneath with a smattering of light surface rust in places
  • The floor pans and chassis rails look really smart
  • All the trim, glass and light lenses look to be in good shape

The Mechanics

  • 2.0-litre Lampredi twin-cam with Bosch fuel injection
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Electronic ignition
  • The braking system is equipped with Aviation model flexibles for efficiency and safety
  • We’re informed all the servicing is up to date with no issues to resolve
  • The ignition system was apparently rebuilt recently with a new alternator, battery and ignition switch
  • The vendor comments that it drives very well with no faults to report

Summary

Presented in great mechanical and cosmetic condition and with some tasteful Abarth-inspired upgrades, we can heartily recommend this Fiat 124 Spider.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
