The Appeal
Of course, there is another Porsche Turbo, but if your pockets aren’t sufficiently deep and your preference isn’t for entering hedges backwards, then you want this car, the one they don’t call The Widowmaker, the 924 Turbo. Built in very low numbers and equipped with a hand-built 4-cylinder 2L 170bhp engine, these beautifully balanced coupes are the undiscovered gem of the Porsche canon.
This factory-standard 1982 car is classically finished in red with a black velour pinstripe interior. It even retains its attractive Turbo lattice alloys. The car is in good, usable shape with scope for the buyer to make it better.
We’re told that the engine was rebuilt in 2000. More recently, the gearbox has been rebuilt and the car serviced with new plugs. Other improvements include refurbishing the wheels, new headlining and a battery. The car is now MOT exempt, but there is a useful recent 2023 MOT that contained no advisories.
The 924 is one of the best-balanced front-engined coupes of its era, and the Turbo arguably the best iteration. This is one for the drivers.
