The Appeal
Very much the preserve of the great and good, a Rolls Royce Corniche was the absolute pinnacle of the luxury coupé tree in the 70s and 80s. Offering an unmatched blend of luxurious appointments, power and an aristocratic image, nothing came close to the Corniche experience.
Of course, the same can be said today - Rolls Royce are still seen as the very epitome of bespoke luxury, and this Corniche is a fine example of that. Immaculately finished after a recent in-and-out restoration, this example is presented in a very smart colour scheme and specification, with a potentially intriguing history.
The History and Paperwork

The Interior

The owner tells us they have gone to incredible lengths to return the cabin of this Corniche to its full former glory. All of the upholstery has been redone, with new magnolia/blue Vaumol Connolly hide fitted throughout, including the headlining. As such, the upholstery presents in exceptional, as-new condition. Secondary blue leather covers the dash-top and steering wheel, and is likewise in lovely condition.
Similarly, they have had all of the burr walnut trim throughout the cabin refurbished and refinished. The quality is evident, as the wood fairly radiates with a glorious shine and depth of colour.
Deep blue lamb’s wool carpets run through the cabin, edged with cream Connolly leather piping to match the rest of the upholstery. They appear to be in superb condition, with no damage we could see.
The dash, driving controls and switchgear all look to be in excellent condition, with just the lightest signs of wear and use. We’re assured by the owner that all of the cabin’s features function just as they should, with no problems.
The Exterior

Finished in deep and glossy peacock blue, with a coordinated blue vinyl roof, this Corniche is a very elegantly styled machine. The paintwork was refreshed quite recently, and looks to be in very good order. There are no major blemishes or marks we could discern. Contrasting nicely with the blue, a gold coachline runs down the length of the car, highlighting the swooping rear haunch.
Looking at the vinyl covered roof, the vinyl looks in good order, with no damage or tears evident. Similarly, all of the external brightwork, badging, glass and light lenses present smartly, with no major issues to report. There are, of course, some signs of light wear from age and use to the brightwork, but nothing that would concern us in any way.
The wheels are the original Rolls Royce 15” items, shod with Avon tyres that look to be in good condition. Those lovely big sidewalls should make the ride even more cushion-like.
The Mechanics

That venerable 6.75-litre V8 is a gem of an engine. Smooth, powerful and refined, it’s the perfect companion for any Rolls Royce. Mated to that buttery smooth automatic transmission, it allows occupants to waft along in opulent comfort and luxury.
Looking under the bonnet, the engine bay is very clean and tidy, with no evidence we could see of leaks, overheating or any other issues.
The vendor tells us that the car drives beautifully and has been very well maintained. They assure us that there are no mechanical problems with the vehicle.
Summary
Few vehicles have the cache of a Rolls Royce. And to feel like an absolute star, not much tops a Rolls Royce coupé.
This Corniche has been beautifully restored and carefully maintained as part of a private collection. Presented with what is, effectively, a brand new interior and with a gorgeous colour scheme, it makes for a very desirable and collectible car.
