The Appeal

The Renault DRK tricycle is a three wheeled kit car, produced by DRK of Ellesmere Port, in the UK form 1987 to 1998 using components from Renault 4, 5 or 6 models. The engines ranged from 845cc to a 1300cc turbo!
In 1990 DRK was sold to body repairers Callister and Roscoe, they continued to build the cars up until 1998 when they retired, in that period just 59 were built. A French take on the iconic Morgan three wheeler that goes back to the mid 1930’s but with a Gaelic flair, very few of these will be seen, with its clever roof configuration it has a lot of flexibility and also the fun factor with its clever suspension setup, and just three wheels!

The History & paperwork

  • Two owners since 1997
  • Comprehensive service history
  • All MOTs
The current owner was looking for a DRK, this example with its wealth of history and the inclusion of many parts made it stand out from the others he had sourced. The previous owner had the vehicle for twenty one years and had three large A4 box files, these chart the cars original build, club magazines, all receipts, MOTs to validate the mileage and parts purchased.
The current MOT is until May 2023, from early next year it will meet historic status and not be eligible for road tax or future MOTs. The car comes with a spare set of keys along with another set that cover various locks to secure the vinyl hood as well.

The Interior

  • four speed gearbox
  • black with red piping bucket seats
  • Tonneau cover
With just over 15,000 miles on the clock this DRK is in exceptional condition inside, the car has always been garaged with the current owner and due to its diminutive size doesn’t take up a great deal of room. The red dashboard facia matches the cars exterior colour and is clean and devoid of any marks, all switches function correctly and the Mountney wooden steering wheel is clean and adds a nice tactile feel to the vehicle.
The inside of the vinyl roof is clean and all straps to store it are included, in the footwell are storage areas and the map pockets on the side interior are like new. A fie extinguisher is fitted in the passenger footwell and the floor carpets are clean and tidy.

The Exterior

  • Collapsible vinyl roof
  • Extra storage trunks
  • Custom fitted side steps
The metallic red paintwork is in exceptional condition, with all chrome work clean and free from any scratches at all. The current owner has installed side steps, a luggage trunk and saddle bags for extra storage. These can be removed easily if the new owner wishes, they suit the vehicles looks though and do provide enough space for a weekend away.
All lights are operational and the front headlights are protected by mesh guards, adding to the retro looks of this tricycle. On the off side front wheel arch (made of fibre glass) there is a very minor crack, only visible on close inspection as it sits behind the indicator.
All wheels are clean and tyres ave very good tread, as does the spare which is housed on the off side of the vehicle. The leather bonnet straps secure the engine cover securely and fit in with the cars interior, these were added by the owner as an extra security feature.

The Mechanics

  • 1108cc Renault 4 engine
  • Detailed Inventory of work carried out
  • Comes with new, reconditioned and second hand parts
The DRK engine from a Renault 4 is in great condition, regularly maintained by its current owner with receipts for all parts ordered, this continues the detailed record from the previous owner of twenty one years.
The parts that come with the vehicle are extremely comprehensive, these include new drive shafts, a reconditioned gearbox, an alternator and starter motor along with numerous other extras. The seller has a full inventory showcasing all of these.

Summary

With the new Morgan Super 3 getting rave reviews and an order bank going in to late 2023 this is your chance to buy a rarer and unique French take on the Morgan classic.
With the perky Renault 4 1108cc engine in a lightweight body this classic will put a smile on the next owners face, whether on a  twisty stretch of B road or just to drive down to the newsagents for that early morning paper.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
