1984 Ford Capri 3.0 Essex 3.0 XPack

Highlights

  • Extremely rare and desirable Fibresports XX-Pack body kit
  • Imported to Ireland in 1998
  • Low mileage 3.0 Essex V6 engine

The Appeal

The car you’ve always promised yourself.

The tagline that aided the incredible success of the European equivalent of the Mustang, and one that still rings incredibly relevant today thanks to the strong fan-base that the Capri still holds - and rightly so.

A fast, cheap, and fun two-plus-two couple aimed at the blue-collar working man, aided by its devilish looks it’s easy to understand why they became such a huge success.
This particular example is an extremely well known, and rather lusted after, FastFord featured XX-Pack.

A previous ownership saw the conversion take place based on a 2.0S chassis which was handed over to Tiger Kit Cars in the UK, where the Fibresports XX-Pack body kit was professionally installed along with some other tasty pieces to the puzzle.
Truly, you won’t find another Capri quite like this one - and certainly not in such cared for condition, a one-off build that has been praised endlessly over the years by those surrounding it, and those lucky enough to see it in person.

The Interior

  • 2.0S cloth seats and trim
  • Original headlining and door cards
  • CCI leather gear knob, gear lever, handbrake and gators
  • CCI centre console with a wooden effect fascia
  • Ford Racing oil pressure and water temperature gauges
  • Clifford alarm system
  • JVC head unit
  • Pioneer sound system with a 6-CD changer
  • Three-spoke split, leather wrapped Mounteny steering wheel
  • Autostyle custom made floor mats
  • Red LED dash and floor lighting
  • Functional sunroof
Largely original with scattered upgrades throughout, the interior of this road-going rocket is tame and extremely welcoming and comfortable.

The original 2.0S cloth seats are all here and present themselves in very good condition front and rear, with just slight signs of staining, but no apparent rips or tears throughout which is nice to see!

The custom-made Autostyle floor mats are also a nice touch, with red piping and “Capri 3.0 XPack” embroidered, reminding you and anyone else in the car that this isn’t just your average Capri.
Slipping into the comfortable and supportive drivers seat you’re welcomed with a lovely three-spoke Mounteny leather wrapped steering wheel which appears in good condition with the usual leather sheen and all of the stitching in good shape.

Just behind the steering wheel, you’re introduced to the CCI wooden effect fascia with white dial trims, all retaining the original dials and showing a mere 88k miles, everything here works as it should hand retains no unwelcome warning lights.
In the centre console of the vehicle we can see the two Ford Racing gauges, one for oil pressure and the other for water temperature, and just above it we have the JVC head unit as well as the heater controls higher up on the dashboard and some control buttons for wipers, lights and heated screen, all of which still function flawlessly.
Moving to the boot, we can see there are two speakers installed in the parcel shelf, which do have some loose wires dangling about, and the carpet back here does show signs of use with some stains and dirt, but overall appears to be free from damage in the form of rips or tears.

Under the false floor there is a full size spare wheel, and everything in here looks really solid with no signs of any water ingress or rust apparent!

The Exterior

  • Fibreworks Double X-Pack body kit
  • Nissan Bluebird Turbo bumpers
  • RGA tailgate spoiler
  • Autoparts grill and driving lamps
  • Nissan 526 Flame Red paint job
  • 15” Compomotive FH 3-piece split wheels (8J front and 10J rear)
  • Sunroof wind deflector
  • Chrome wing mirrors
Chunky, ain’t it?

Thanks to the Fibreworks body kit this Capri sports oh-so-well, it portrays an aggressive stance while maintaining all of the original, boxy body lines that it should have, and looks world above the usual “bolt-on” kits. It’s very OEM+, and you’d be easily fooled into believing that it left the factory like this.
Starting at the front of the Capri, we see the Autoparts driving laps front and centre, sitting in a paint-matched grill and headlight surrounds. All of the lights up here seem to be in great condition with no signs of any cracks or water ingress, and are all fully functional too!

Paintwork up here is in nice shape as well, with minimal stone chips or blemishes, there is the odd scuff on the lower part of the front lip, though pretty minimal, it is in lovely shape given its age.
Moving to the side of the car, we get a better view of they wide arches front and rear that set this Capri apart from the rest. All of the body panels look to be in fantastic shape with no signs of dents or damage, and the paintwork looks very nice too giving off a bright red sheen.

A testament to how well fitting the body kit is, are the panel gaps, which most places struggle with - but not here. Panel gaps are extremely uniform throughout, emphasising that OEM+ look we spoke about earlier.
Sitting on lovely 15”, 3-piece Compomotive FH wheels, 8J up front and a chunky 10J hiding in the rear with much deeper barrels, it really does look the part.

The polished barrels look to be in good condition with the odd age related scuff and some curb marks, and the diamond cut faces  show some little signs of corrosion as can be seen on almost every diamond cut alloys these days.
Around to the rear of the car, the RGA spoiler emphasises the performance aspect of this road going rocketship, as do the twin exhaust pipes sticking out through the bumper - around which there does seem to be some holes on both sides.

Just under the spoiler, the ‘V6’ badge lets everyone around you know this is something special!

On the spoiler there does seem to be some paint chipping on the front of one of the support legs, and the wiper stalk looks like it was previously red and painted over with black, as some small signs of red are starting to poke through.
Overall, this is an extremely well put together bit of kit, a highly recognisable one, at that. XPack cars are seriously scarce pieces of artwork, and this may just be one of the best ones still kicking around to this day!

So, not only does the car look the part, it also packs quite the punch, too.

Fitted with an Essex 3.0 V6 as well as some tasty performance upgrades alongside it, it's more than enough to leave an everlasting grin tattooed across your face.
The current owner of the car tells us that the car has been lovingly cared for ever since he took possession of it way back in 1998, and it really does show.

The car has recently undergone a LSD overhaul as well as a recent unleaded head conversion, as well as a recently replaced set of tyres.

It’s reported to fire up at the turn of a key, accelerating hard and linear as you’d expect with smooth and precise gear changes through the 4-speed transmission. No unwelcome knocks, bangs or clunks are present.
Just a glimpse into the engine bay and you’ll see that the owner has spared no expense and truly looked after this car with amazing attention to detail, this really is a rolling piece of automotive artwork!

Summary

When’s the last time you ever saw an XPack Capri? Honestly, it’s been quite a while for us, too.

These enthusiast-lusted gems rarely surface and when they do, they don’t hang around long! Quickly appreciating blue oval classics, that’s for sure.
This is definitely a rare opportunity to own a very sought after, and widely recognisable classic that has a rich history, one that you can show off to people in the form of a magazine article or two.

Don’t let this one slip away!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
