The Appeal
The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen needs little introduction, but the factory cabriolet variant is a different proposition entirely. Produced in far smaller numbers than its hardtop sibling, the soft-top G-Wagen is among the most collectable iterations of Stuttgart's legendary off-roader, and right-hand drive examples are vanishingly rare. The vendor describes this as the only known factory soft-top 1984 G-Wagen currently for sale in right-hand drive.
This particular example has been subject to what the vendor describes as "a full nut and bolt" restoration, carried out by the highly regarded Mark Ashton, and the vendor states that the result is far beyond what is typically found for a vehicle of this age. The interior has been retrimmed with new leather upholstery across all seats and fresh floor coverings, while a Sony Bluetooth stereo provides a subtle nod to modern convenience. Mechanically, the vehicle has been professionally fitted with an OM605 engine, which has covered fewer than 1,000 miles since the conversion and benefits from a mild tune. Now over 40 years old and qualifying for historic vehicle status, this G-Wagen is a mightily tempting machine.20260408_151040 Oliver Wright.jpg7.48 MB
