The Background
BMW are renowned for the 3 series from the very minute they were released till today. Released in various forms including Touring, 4 door saloon, and 2 door, there was a model for everyone.
Baur editions were quite expensive when new on the market as factory editions were not available until 1985, but this didn't stop the production of the Baur editions for some time.
The History
First registered in 1985 the car has had 6 owners excluding current and has covered very little miles in its last 12-15 years on the road.
The Paperwork
We were happy to see this particular E30 had plenty of paperwork including the up to date MOT certificate, V5 registered to the current owner and a plethora of old MOT certificates.
The Interior
Very rarely will you find a car like this that shows such little wear and evidence of use! The seat bolsters showed very little wear or sagging and this was the most worn bit we saw. The carpets were superb condition with almost no wear, and there light blue colour was still good with few marks.
All the plastics were superb, the dash had no cracks or notable marks. The original radio remained along with tape deck and all appeared to be in working order. The dials and clocks were in perfect nick, really clear and clean.
The Exterior
Finished in Polaris silver with a dark blue roof and a pinstripe, this car looked stunning in the early morning sunshine, and clearly the paintwork had been looked after from day one.
The car comes with its original wheels and ‘Bottle top” wheels that are made by BMW, also with original suspension springs. The glass all appears to be original, along with all the rubber seals.
We didn’t spot any notable dings or scratches at all anywhere, the sills too were freshly stone chip protected and looks nice against the bright silver paintwork.
The Mechanics
Just like the overall condition of the car, the mechanical side really was no different. It's equipped with factory fitted options such as power steering, electric windows and the Mtech steering wheel .
The current owner and vendor has really gone through the car and replaced anything that was needed, including the prop shaft bearing, alternator bushings, full exhaust that is in keeping with the age of car, coolant flush and exhaust manifold gasket. Really nothing has been overlooked and we could tell.
Looking underneath it was immediately evident that it had not had and welding or damage that we saw and really looks near as could be, factory fresh.
Appeal
80’s German engineering at its finest with the added bonus of being a Baur convertible edition, this really is a bit special and could either be treasured as part of a collection or driven on a regular basis.
Utterly solid and reliable, with upgraded suspension to modernise the handling, this is a drivers, and enthusiasts car but would be enjoyed by all alike.
So time to pop in your Sting & The Police Cassette tape and put the roof down.
