The Appeal

Few cars enjoy the legendary status of the Nissan Silvia S12 – both as an icon of motorsport (rally and track) and as a hero of the drift and street scenes. With such wide appeal, it’s a shame they are so few and far between on our roads these days. But they still have the ability to stop traffic and draw envious stares.
This particular example has been meticulously restored externally over the past few years, now presenting very well, with a smart recent respray. It also features the rare and sought after ‘Rally Pack’ that European models could be specced with, adding a navigator’s foot brace, headlamp wipers and headlamp guards. These are very uncommon cars now, making this handsome gem a true 80s survivor – one that is ready and waiting for its new owner to take it to the next level.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in September 1985
  • Specified with the rare ‘Rally Pack’
  • Nine owners from new
  • Current owner since May 2018
  • Purchased as a restoration project
  • History file includes MOT certificates back to 1999
  • The car has been SORN and in storage since May 2018
  • Less than 3,000 miles covered since 1999
  • 80,326 miles indicated, verified by the MOT record

The Interior

  • Orange fabric seats with vinyl backs look to be in good order, with minimal wear evident for the age and mileage
  • Rear seats feature unique contrast dark grey upper sections
  • Black vinyl door cards show in very good order, with just a small nick in the vinyl of the near-side door card
  • Black carpet runs through the cabin, with grey carpet to the boot area – it all presents in reasonable condition
  • The vinyl headliner looks to be mostly secure, with a tear above the rear seat and at the front
  • The central courtesy light will require correctly affixing and the near-side air vent has a broken vane
  • Electrically operated door mirrors
  • The stereo has been removed
  • ‘Rally Pack’ navigator’s foot brace present and correct
  • Bright orange instrument and switchgear graphics are excellent and very ‘of their time’
  • Generally, all of the instruments, controls and internal trim items look to be in fine fettle, with some light wear and patination, as would be expected

The Exterior

  • Recently resprayed by the vendor to a high standard, the smart orange/terracotta paintwork looks very good indeed, with no blemishes or notable marks apparent
  • Externally, the trim and badging likewise appears to be complete and in good overall condition, although the door handles wear some light scratching and patination
  • The pop-up lights function correctly, and are fitted with the ‘Rally Pack’ guards and wipers
  • Original multi-spoke 15” alloy wheels show very well and are fitted with a matched set of tyres that look to be in ‘as new’ condition
  • All of the glass looks well, with no cracking or chipping we could see
  • At the rear, the light units seem to have some minor scratches and marks
  • The front near-side indicator lens is broken
  • Underneath, the car looks to be straight and sound as far as we could see, with a coating of underseal and just a few areas of light surface corrosion

The Mechanics

  • 1,809cc single-overhead cam, eight-valve, turbocharged, inline-four (CA18ET)
  • 133hp and 138lb ft delivered to the rear wheels
  • Five-speed manual transmission
  • The engine bay looks nice and clean, with no corrosion we could see to the inner wings, strut turrets or bulkhead
  • We’re assured by the vendor that the car runs and drives
  • It will require some light mechanical recommissioning to return to the road

Summary

With its newly refreshed bodywork, this handsome 80s icon is ready for the final touches. With a little work to the interior and some mechanical recommissioning, this delightful orange wedge will soon be ready to go – we fully expect to see it taking pride of place at many shows next year.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
