The Appeal
The enduring popularity of the air-cooled 911 has tended to overshadow just how good the firm’s other models were during that time. The 928 was conceived as the 911’s replacement and Porsche threw everything at making it right. The result is a brutally capable and quick 2+2 GT that is beautifully balanced. It’s quite simply one of the best long-distance classic GTs money can buy.
The ‘S2’ arrived in the UK in 1984, equipped with the larger 4.7L V8 engine, which received a power hike that same year to 310bhp. Reports indicate that just 410 S and S2 cars were sold here with the manual box, which makes this 1985 car extremely rare. It’s very desirable too, because that gearbox releases the car’s considerable sporting pedigree.
This car is definitely a project, but it is a complete and surprisingly well-preserved one despite being off the road since 2011. The history file shows regular attention up to the point it was last MOT’d and supports the car’s low mileage for the year. It is sold as a non-running project. As a 1985-registered car, it is now eligible for registration as a Historic Vehicle, making it tax and MOT-exempt.
