THE APPEAL
Each year for the world-famous Indianapolis 500 Indy Car race, the organisers sell the rights to provide pace cars and official vehicles.
In 1986, to mark the launch of the new C4 Convertible, Chevrolet took up the sponsorship and provided 56 Corvettes to the iconic race circuit, both to pace the oval racing and also to use as official vehicles for VIPs, sponsors, celebrity guests and around the paddock.
Supplied in red, silver, black, gold and yellow, the C4 Pace Cars came with a full Indy 500 decal kit and were all an identical spec, with brushed alloy wheels and a tan leather interior, along with a dashboard plaque commemorating the event.
This one is a replica of those iconic Pace Cars. A red C4 in the exact specification, with a genuine Indy 500 dashboard plaque and the handbook signed by the 1986 Indianapolis winner, Bobby Rahal. The Corvette C4 is an extremely cool car at the best of times – anyone who grew up in the 1980s will remember it from iconic TV shows such as the A-Team and Cagney and Lacey to name but two. It’s a wonderful slice of 1980s Americana and in this case is a fantastic example in really lovely condition, and with a genuine low mileage. Chevy small block engines have been known to cover over a million miles without failure, so this one is barely run-in.
