The Background
The Ford Escort Mk4 (or Mk3 facelift) was produced in South Africa from 1981 and was very similar to the European version apart from a few local parts being added.
They came in 1.3 and 1.6 litre from the SA factory.
The car comes with a service book, an original manual, some old South African tax discs and a number of invoices and receipts for servicing and minor works. It has been correctly imported to the UK and the vendor has received the UK V5 registration document which will of course be provided with the car. ford escort-10.jpg3.67 MB
The Interior
The interior on the Escort is delightfully 80s, pretty much all the plastics are brown and the cloth materials such as the seats are a light brown biscuit colour. All in all its in very tidy shape for a 35 year old car with one rip in the drivers door card.
It is very original and there doesn’t seem to be any cracking of the dash plastics which can be common on cars that have spent their lives in hot climates. It's in almost time warp condition and sitting in it will definitely take you back to the 80s.DSC_9193.jpg2.19 MB
The Exterior
The exterior is in clean original condition also with the 1600 sport decals keeping it very period correct. The car has extra spot lamps on the front and runs on original steel wheels which are in solid condition.
The car is fitted with a rear window louvre also.
There are a few minor blemishes to the paint , a scuff on the passenger side door rear edge and a few other small areas that may need attention but overall due to its life spent in a dry climate it is in very solid condition indeed.
A bonnet protector has been used on the leading edge of the bonnet so there is some paint fade as a result, due to the sun.DSC_9154-Edit.jpg2.28 MB
The Mechanics
Mechanically the car starts stops and drives very well and is backed up for peace of mind with 12 months fresh MOT here in the UK.
This generation of Escort isn’t all that visible on the UK Streets now days. Mostly due to any UK models have suffered terrible corrosion in the lovely climate that is the British weather.
The best way to find a solid example that’s largely original is to look further afield to dryer climates and that’s exactly what you have here.
It's so rare over here, its cool, and that retro styling is massive out there on the scene at the moment. Due to it being so closely related to the European version parts are still available and it's one of those quirky models that will attract a lot of attention on UK soil.
