The Appeal
The Series III XJ was one of the final outings for Jaguar's world-beating XK engine and, indeed, the final expression of the original XJ formula, preceding and later overlapping with the heavily revised AJ6-engined XJ40 platform. Pininfarina was drafted in to modernise the cabin profile, although the Series III retains the distinction of being the last XJ6 to have been overseen by the great William Lyons.
Even today, these are fondly remembered as roguish cars. You might recall Arthur Daley's Series III XJ in hit TV series 'Minder'...
This 1986 4.2-litre example is particularly tidy and sits atop a smart set of unashamedly '80s pepperpot alloy wheels.
Both the paintwork and leather interior are reported to be in very good order, and the car is said to start and drive well. With two new front tyres recently fitted and a long rego with minimal advisories, this Sovereign warrants close attention from anyone seeking a handsome and usable classic Jaguar saloon.image.png4.3 MB
