1986 Porsche 944 Turbo

Highlights

  • Has previously gone through an extensive restoration
  • Huge invoices present
  • Lots of historic paperwork
  • Low mileage example.
  • Rare red CanCan leather seats

The Appeal

If there is one word that personifies the cars in the 80s it has to be Turbo, a buzzword at the time, it certainly gave some buzz to the 944. Now with 220hp to the rear wheels, the 944 was a proper sports tourer.

This example has previously had a lot of work carried out on it and is now presented in very good condition for its age. Throw your bags in the large boot and get exploring, you won’t regret this addition to your collection.

The History and Paperwork

  • The history of this 944 is neatly presented in a folder
  • Filled with old invoices, documents, and even Porsche letters it is very comprehensive indeed
  • The first important piece of paperwork to point out is the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity proving that this car is indeed an original turbo
  • There is then a specification sheet for this car
  • It shows that the car left the factory with quite a few optional extras
  • These include, but are not limited to, the heated leather seats, forged alloy wheels, rear wiper, leather sport steering wheel, and air conditioning
  • The early paperwork shows regular maintenance work on the car
  • But in 2004 it gets a bit more interesting
  • This car appears to go in for a respray and some corrosion repairs
  • Documented through older photographs you can see that the car has been well looked after
  • Carrying on through its life the regular maintenance is continued
  • But in 2016 a lot of work is carried out, the full description of this invoice can be found in the gallery
  • The last few invoices are from 2018, and much like the 2016 invoices, these are very large
  • In March of 2018, it has a new head gasket, along with a strip down of the cylinder head, after 35 hours of work the invoice comes to £3,500
  • After this rebuild, the car is sadly left, due to the owner at the time passing away
  • About a year ago the current owner was able to acquire the car and set about recommissioning it for the road
  • After passing its MOT it is now ready to go back out on the road
  • You can see from the paperwork images the previous owners of the car have looked at it very well
  • Now it’s your turn to enjoy what this 80s icon has to offer

The Interior

  • The interior of this Porsche is very striking indeed
  • Each seat is trimmed in this lovely CanCan red leather
  • All around the leather is in great condition considering its age and mileage
  • You may spot a few areas of the white piping that are brand new, but the car is nearly 40 years old so this can be expected
  • The front seats are electrically operated and heated too
  • Interestingly the rear seats are very 80s
  • With only 1 seatbelt offered from the factory in the rear one of the bucket seats is void of a seatbelt
  • An issue wrongly raised within the previous MOT
  • You may spot that the original steering wheel has been swapped out in favour of this Momo variant instead
  • Behind the steering wheel, the Porsche dials are all easily legible
  • There are a few small cracks present on the dashboard, but nothing too major
  • It still performs its job as it should
  • Within the dash, you’ll find the controls for the air-conditioning
  • Just below this, there is a radio cassette player
  • In front of the gearstick, there are controls for the central locking, electric mirrors, sunroof, and rear wiper
  • On the floor, you’ll find a nice set of 944 embroidered over mats
  • Along with some black carpets
  • Within the boot, you’ll find the spare wheel and a large space for all of your luggage
  • Lifting the carpet, you’ll see that the floor is nice and solid
  • Especially around the rear turrets, this is very clean
  • Overall, the interior is in very good condition indeed
  • You will have lots of fun inside this ‘80s icon

The Exterior

  • Is there anything more ‘80s than a wedge-shaped sports car
  • Externally this 944 is in very good condition as well
  • During its restoration period, it did have a re-spray and corrosion repairs completed
  • It is thanks to this preventative work that it now sits in such a condition
  • You can see from photos at the time it had some new metal put in around the arches
  • Although it sat outside for a little bit of time, the paint is still in very good condition
  • The current owner did point out a few areas that they are going to work on before the auction
  • So, you should have a very good looking 944 Turbo to add to your collection
  • If you want to get very picky, two of the Porsche centre caps weren’t present at the time of the photos
  • Importantly, however, the pop-up headlights work as they should
  • Popping up and retracting without an issue they add to the car’s personality
  • Up front one of the fog light covers does have a crack in it
  • You may also wish to do some work to the rear bumper, there are just a few areas of age related wear
  • On the rear, the Porsche monogram is in lovely condition
  • The all-important Turbo badge is also nice and presentable
  • Overall, the exterior of this 944 Turbo is in very good condition
  • With a little bit of TLC in a few isolated areas, it will be a showstopper

The Mechanics

  • This is a true sports tourer
  • Thanks to the large boot and four seats it is very practical when you think about it
  • Under the bonnet is a nice and pokey four-cylinder
  • With the addition of the turbo, it would push out over 200hp
  • Twinned with the characteristic Porsche handling it is a great car out on the road
  • As you can see through the amount of paperwork this car has been looked after well
  • This should mean that it will be a great mechanical example for you to enjoy whenever you wish
  • During the photoshoot, it was required to move on a couple of occasions
  • Each time it fired up and performed the task without complaining
  • Overall, this is a very good example of a quick tourer
  • Getting behind the wheel of this car will be a memorable experience that you won’t forget in a hurry

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
