THE APPEAL

The Audi quattro is probably one of the most famous Audi cars produced due to Audi’s quattro permanent four-wheel drive system. The Audi Coupe retains the quattro system but no turbocharger; with that said, it is equally as much fun to drive. This 1987 Coupé quattro has the original Sapphire Blue paintwork and excellent grey interior.

It has been enthusiast owned for several years, and as you know, enthusiasts tend to maintain their cars exceptionally well, which is the case with this one, as you can see from the history it comes with.

With these models extremely thin on the ground, this is the perfect opportunity for any Audi fan or, in fact, any classic car enthusiast to take over the ownership of the classic Coupé and see what all the fuss is about. You won’t be disappointed.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • V5 is present
  • Registered 3rd November 1987
  • Enthusiast owned
  • Excellent history
  • MOT valid until 28th September 2022

Owned for the past eight years, the seller has enjoyed the Audi immensely, taking any excuse to get the car out and take it for a spin, either locally or further afield to a show with the quattro owners club.

The vehicle comes with an impressive history file, some of which dates back to when the car was new. Feeling that the time is right to part with his cherished classic, the Audi is looking for a new owner who can continue to enjoy this rare Coupé quattro.

THE INTERIOR

  • Original interior
  • Minimal wear inside
  • Electric windows
  • Working differential lock controls
Inside, the Audi is all in the original trim. The seats are in exceptional condition for the age and mileage, with minimal wear to the driver’s upper bolster. The passenger seat is also excellent, and it goes without saying that the back seat is also superb. The door cards are in splendid condition with no damage to point out, and the electric mirror switch mounted in the armrest is working as it should.
The dashboard shows no signs of any cracks or splits. Sitting behind the four-spoke steering wheel, which shows minor wear, the instruments are all reported to be working as they should, and the odometer shows a reading of 135,445 miles. The switchgear is at your fingertips, and all looks in good condition with no reported issues. To the left, the heater controls work as they should. The head-unit has been replaced at some point with a Pure unit, and just below that is what makes this car quite remarkable, the electronic differential locks. This enables you to lock either the front or rear differential, and to the right of that is the LED volt and oil temperature display which is working.
The carpets are in good order with no excessive wear areas, and a set of mats is fitted to protect them. Looking up at the headlining, this is in good condition with no staining or sagging to mention. The sunroof tilts up as it should and can be removed and stowed in the specific area in the boot. There has been a new seal fitted to the roof, which makes it a little tight closing, so it doesn’t sit quite as flush as it once did. Inside the boot area is nice and clean with the spare wheel to the left, and there is the jack and original tool kit present, along with a period BMW first aid kit.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Sapphire
  • Factory option wider wheels
  • Standard wheels included, those being a set of 4 x original 14'' Roan R8's
  • Timeless styling
Sapphire was the colour choice from Audi when the Coupé was produced. It looks to be wearing that original paint over most of the body. The only parts thought to have been repainted are behind the sill covers when there was some work carried out to each corner of the sill. It’s also worth mentioning that under the sill covers were waxoyled before they were refitted.
Starting at the front of the Audi, the headlights, foglights and indicators are all in good condition and free from any chips or cracks. The seller has replaced the reflectors in the headlights in the past few years, which means that these are still nice and bright. There are some stone chips to the bumper in keeping with the age and mileage, and some blistering along the bonnet's front edge, which could be addressed to prevent it from worsening. The bonnet looks to align up as it should with an equal gap along each wing rail.

The seller has noted that the windscreen has one small chip on the passenger side, which was there when he bought the car and which has not worsened in that time.
Moving around to the sides of the quattro, the swage line is nice and straight, showing that the doos align as they should, and there is just one small ding in the passenger rear quarter to mention. There are a couple of age related marks as to be expected for the age. The windows have no apparent scratches, and the seals have a small amount of age related perishing.
At the rear, the famous Coupé tinted back panel has one hairline crack beneath the number plate but is in good condition overall, and the same can be said for the light clusters. Back in the 80s, the boot spoiler was made of a rubber material and then painted. Unfortunately, although the paint hasn’t come off, it has cracked over time where the rubber has moved.

The wheels, which were offered as an optional extra, have a deeper dish, making them fill the arches better than the standard wheels. There are a few minor marks to mention, but they look free from any corrosion, and the tyres are all matching Toyo Proxes with a good amount of tread remaining.

THE MECHANICS

  • Original 5-cylinder engine
  • Five-speed gearbox
  • Front and rear differential lock
  • New unfitted rear section exhaust included
  • Well maintained
What an engine! The 2.2-litre 5-cylinder engine produces 134bhp and sounds fantastic as you push it through the rev range. The seller has maintained the Audi with regular oil, filter and spark plug changes to keep the Coupé in fine fettle. The timing belt, tensioners and waterpump were replaced approximately 6,000 miles ago. The seller has also fitted bonnet struts with parts from a UR quattro.

There has been a Bosal centre section exhaust fitted in the past few years and as mentioned a new rear section is included with the sale. The gear change is reported to be smooth, and no noises are said to come from the transmission.
Within the past few years, the dampers and springs have been replaced with Koni units, followed by replacing the ball joints and track rod ends, and then it’s all been dialled in with a four-wheel alignment set up. The brakes have also seen some attention within the last 6,000 miles, with new discs and pads all around and a new caliper to the rear.

SUMMARY

What a car to own, and if you never have, you should; the whole experience of owning and driving a quattro can be very rewarding. This 1987 model has been well maintained by an enthusiast for the past eight years and is in excellent condition for the age and mileage.

Now becoming very sought after due to the rarity of the 80s German classic, this is your time to own one before they all get stored in private collections.

Ammontare dell'offerta Incremento
Da £0 a £9,999 £100.00
Da £10,000 a £49,999 £250.00
Da £50,000 a £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Superamento immediato dell'offerta
