The Appeal
45 years on, it’s hard to convey the incredible impact made by the ‘Ur’ Quattro, but this eye-catching Tornado red 1987 WR-code 10V is certainly trying hard. This is one of the last of the original 2.1L cars, the one that literally turned how we drive cars quickly entirely on its head.
Deep-dive enthusiasts continue to argue about the merits of 10V and 20V Quattros, but let's be clear: either one is brilliant. The 10V is less complicated and more immediate. This one was built in 1987, so it is a very late car. It is in extremely good condition, which likely explains why Classic Car Weekly and Classic Cars magazine recently featured it in their pages.
The car was acquired by the seller in 2020 and received £14,500 of work in 2022, including a general mechanical refresh and suspension overhaul. The service book shows regular stamps to support the low displayed mileage, running up to September 2024. The car has covered very few miles since. Other notable recent maintenance includes a cambelt change in 2021. The current MOT runs to October 2026 with no advisories.
The original Quattro is one of the greatest driving experiences you’ll ever have. This car, with its extensive recent investment, would be a great way to start 2026.
The vendor says:
“During my ownership, the car has been cherished as a true enthusiast’s vehicle. I have regularly taken it to car shows, where it has consistently drawn attention and admiration. It also completed a Quattro owners’ tour of Yorkshire without a single issue, demonstrating its reliability and well-maintained condition. This example has been looked after with care, driven responsibly, and kept in excellent running order, reflecting its status as a highly collectable, fully documented classic.”

“Tornado Red. Before my ownership, the car received regular servicing and general maintenance - a good history file is included. There’s no indication of major restoration work, but it has had a respray at some point before my ownership. The paintwork is still in great condition and looks really bright. There are a couple of age-related marks which are in line with a car of this age which has been used, but nothing significant which detracts from the overall look and usability of the car. The photographer will be able to take close-ups of any particular area.
