The Appeal

They were part of our childhood, made extra famous by The Professionals, sliding around London warehouses. The Ford Capri has always been the tail-happy coupé, billed by Ford as “the car you always promised yourself”. It became a massive success for Ford and 1.9 million Capris were produced over a seventeen year production run.

Amongst the last produced in 1986, the final year of production this 2.8 Injection is the one of the ultimate V6 models with 158bhp. Boasting smart graphics, Recaro sports seats and a five speed gearbox driving through a limited slip differential it was a real performance car.

Bought by its first owner in Minehead in 1987 it was subsequently purchased by the second owner and was driven locally for many years, serviced regularly by a local mechanic who was a family friend. The Seller was gifted the Capri when the second owner, his wife’s grandmother, gave up driving in 2020.

He has owned the Capri since then and has completed a few small jobs to keep it driving nicely and improve the looks. Recently he moved house where the Capri now shares the garage with his children’s bicycles parked perilously close! He is reluctantly offering it for sale as he would like to see it to a new owner who appreciates the low mileage and originality and would like to take it to the next level.

All glass and lenses in great condition with no chips or cracks
Original 13 inch seven spoke Ford wheels with minor damage to all rims
Two Federal brand tyres on rear with sidewall age related cracking
One Marshal Power Racer and one newer Nankang tyre on front wheels
One front wing and tailgate replaced, but well paint matched
Some corrosion present on lower rear arches at sill level
Smart well fitted vinyl roof, needs minor finishing round tailgate
Working tilt/slide sunroof
Twin exhausts with chrome tips
Correct decals and tape stripes in good condition
Small rub to tape stripe on offside front wing
Recent work to tailgate to cut out rust bubbles, rust proof and repaint
Bumpers repainted with replacement over-riders

The Mechanics

Summary

This Capri is a fantastic entrance to the classic car scene, with a comparatively low buy in compared to the 'big hitters'. Mechanically sound, with a valid MoT - it drives as it should and grabs attention as we proved during the photo session, with plenty of interested and admiring passers-by. With well below average miles and an impressively untouched interior we think this one will be a real keeper. Whether you want a usable classic or a perfect starter for a trophy winner, you won't go far wrong with this Capri.
