THE APPEAL

Presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1984, the Lancia Thema replaced the advanced but unlucky Lancia Gamma with a completely new model, developed on a platform common to the Fiat Croma, the Alfa Romeo 164 and the Saab 9000.
With an elegant design by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Thema was a classic sedan, both traditional and extremely modern.
The very refined cabin, upholstered with Alcantara, exquisite Zegna fabrics or Poltrona Frau leather, the spacious and comfortable passenger compartment, the large boot, the sure-footed road holding and the high performances of the most powerful engines, made it the Italian executive sedan of the eighties and nineties par excellence, adopted by the most important politicians, managers and professionals.
Ruler of the motorways, it allowed for very comfortable travels with high average speeds in maximum safety, thanks to the first ABS system offered on an Italian car, fitted on the most powerful and well-equipped versions.
The first series, built until 1988, included a two-litre petrol engine with two overhead camshafts, naturally aspirated or in a 165 horsepower turbo version, the most powerful Thema until the launch of the Ferrari engined 8.32, with a 220 km /h top speed and able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just over seven seconds.
This eight-valve Lancia Thema Turbo was the most powerful, fastest and well equipped version of the first series.
With very low mileage in relation to its age and always maintained with great care by its two previous owners, it shows a bodywork with no visible defects, with bright, shiny paint and original alloy wheels, headlights and brightwork in very good condition.
The interior is very well presented, with seats and door cards upholstered in pleasant Ermenegildo Zegna fabric in very good condition and an intact and efficient dashboard, with unfaded and unscratched plastics.
With scrupulously maintained mechanics, as demonstrated by the supplied original service book and a clean and tidy engine compartment, this Thema is ready to drive and let its next owner relive the unforgettable charm of one of the most famous and beloved Italian executive sedans.

SUMMARY

The Lancia Thema was one of the most respected status symbols in the flourishing and prosperous Italy between the eighties and nineties, an embodiment of success, refinement, sobriety and love for Made in Italy products and represented a valid alternative to the German flagships.
Today it is admired and much desired by enthusiasts, celebrated by very active clubs and its prices are rising.
With comfortable, well-finished and well-equipped interiors, powerful and lively engines and excellent roadholding thanks to the fully independent suspension, the Thema, capable of average speeds that are still very respectable today, has long been the queen of Italian motorways.
