1987 Land Rover 90 V8

Highlights

  • Now equipped with a 3.5-litre Rover V8 which has reportedly been rebuilt
  • Refurbished chassis, bulkhead and interior
  • Valid MOT until December 2023

The Appeal

Whether it be for work or recreation, the Land Rover has a lot to offer, and those equipped with V8 petrol engines are particularly desirable.
Here we have a smart short wheelbase Land Rover 90, dating from 1987. It benefits from a great deal of recent attention to the chassis, bulkhead, interior and the Rover V8 engine that’s nestled under the bonnet.
Finished in an attractive colour and presented in very good overall condition, this may well be the car you’ve always wanted.

The History and Paperwork

  • V5C present
  • MOT valid until December 2023 with no advisories
  • We’re informed that the previous owner intended to completely rebuild and fit a V8 engine
  • Repairs were carried out to the chassis and bulkhead and both were then CIO coated
  • Unfortunately, the previous owner was unable to complete the project
  • The vendor acquired the Land Rover in early 2022 and we’re informed that they carried out a comprehensive rebuild following on from where the previous owner left off
  • The indicated mileage of 39,198 is not supported by the MOT history, so we’d suggest the speedometer has been changed in the past
  • Copious new parts fitted
  • Ready to use and enjoy

The Interior

  • New leather sports-style seats and steering wheel
  • Re-carpeted throughout in grey
  • Chequer plate fitted on the floors
  • A cubby storage box has been fitted between the front seats
  • The dashboard presents well with few blemishes
  • An analogue clock and USB port has been fitted in the radio cut-out
  • Besides a few marks, the door cards look to be in good order
  • We’re informed that the odometer records mileage, although the speedometer needle can be rather erratic, so a spare unit is provided
  • No headlining fitted
  • There is a sunroof up front

The Exterior

  • Attractive green paintwork
  • Besides the usual small blemishes we’d expect to see in Land Rover bodywork, this looks a straight example
  • Chequer plate fitted to the bonnet, wing tops and sill plates
  • Heavy-duty roof rack fitted with a ladder on the rear for access
  • Additional light bar above the windscreen
  • Sits upon black steel wheels with off-road tyres
  • The chassis is clean and looks to be very smart indeed with no obvious signs of corrosion
  • We couldn’t see any corrosion to the bulkhead or rear crossmember
  • Equipped with an adjustable tow hitch
  • All of the inner wings present really nicely and there’s no obvious electrolytic corrosion to the aluminium either
  • Overall, a smart example that’s not too shiny to use as Land Rover intended

The Mechanics

  • Now fitted with a Rover 3.5-litre V8 petrol engine
  • Five-speed gearbox
  • We’re informed that the engine has been rebuilt
  • The vendor reports that it runs and drives well with no issues to report

Summary

An eminently presentable example of the revered classic Land Rover. Don’t miss this excellent opportunity to buy a well sorted example with a burbling V8 under the bonnet.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
