The Appeal
The less common 420SL is a wise choice of R107 if you fancy the classic SL V8 soundtrack but with real-world economy. Good for close on 220bhp, these cars are decently quick and supremely comfortable for long runs.
They are so usable and durable that this car’s 89,000 miles is both surprising and barely run in. It is a later car with the rust-resistant galvanised body and it is finished in the popular combination of Signal Red with matching hard top and beige interior. It left the factory well-appointed, including full leather and a desirable rear seat conversion.
The current keeper acquired the car in 2008. He describes the car as ‘a very clean example’ and looking at the photos we have to agree. The car was fully resprayed in 2024 and has covered few miles since. The paintwork and exterior fittings remain very well kept, while inside, there is only a mere hint of use.
In 2024, the car received a cosmetic refresh, using parts supplied by The SL Shop. Earlier notable maintenance includes a gearbox rebuild in 2017.
With advisory-free MOT to September 2026, this is a very tidy 420SL and one of the nicest we’ve seen in a while.
