The Appeal

For just about as long as motorcycles have been around, people have been building their own one-off custom creations. Bike culture has long been about expressing riders’ individuality, and what better way to show your uniqueness than by riding a bespoke custom motorcycle?
Here we have a great looking sled that embraces two prominent custom bike styles - the ‘café racer’ and the ‘urban scrambler’. Call it a ‘café scrambler’ if you like, but all we know is… it’s awesome.
This BMW R80 has been stored under cover in the vendor’s garage since 2017 as, unfortunately, they’ve not been able to use it during their ownership after sustaining an injury. Serviced before it was put away in 2017, some basic recommissioning will now be required to get it up and running again, but this shouldn’t be too arduous.
Presented in very good overall condition and with an absolutely wonderful style all of its own, we can strongly recommend you consider this motorcycle as the next addition to your collection.

The History and Paperwork

  • Acquired by the current owner in 2017
  • An unfortunate accident unfortunately meant that the current owner was never able to ride this bike
  • ‘Paradise Ironworks’ script on the tank is likely the identity of the builder
  • We don’t know exactly when or by whom the customisation work was carried out
  • The MOT expired in June 2018, so will need to be renewed
  • Stored in the vendor’s garage, unridden since 2017
  • The engine hasn’t been run since it was serviced in 2017
  • The 75,345 miles displayed on the odometer is supported by recent MOT tests so is likely accurate
  • Accompanied by a service invoice rom 2017
  • V5C present

The Condition

  • Single seat conversion making the bike quite compact
  • Attractive grey paintwork which really suits the ‘industrial design’ aesthetics
  • Distinctive styling
  • "Paradise Ironworks" script on the fuel tank
  • Equipped with an amber headlamp which has mesh stone guard
  • Shortened front mudguard
  • Offset rear number plate 
  • Fitted with leather pouches for stowing small items
  • The wheels are finished in matt black and we’re informed that the Continental Twinduro tyres are in “as-new” condition
  • Bar end mirror
  • The vendor points out a few imperfections including marks around the fuel filler cap, some imperfections to the seat upholstery and some deterioration to the handlebar grips
  • Overall, ot presents really well with very little wear and no major damage
  • No signs of corrosion the the frame or tank and all the paint looks really smart
  • We didn’t notice any obvious dents

The Mechanics 

  • 789cc horizontally opposed twin cylinder engine
  • Twin exhaust pipes
  • Supplied with a spare gearbox
  • Serviced in 2017 and fitted with a new battery as is detailed by an invoice 
  • Reportedly ran well when put away, but hasn’t been started or ridden since
  • Some rec commissioning and servicing work is advised before this bike is used a gain
  • A new MOT test will of course need to be carried out

Summary

There’s something about BMW motorcycles of this era which suits customisation ever so well. This is a particularly fine creation and we’re sure it’ll be back on the road, where it deserves to be, before too long.
