The Appeal
The Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6 is one of the most celebrated hot hatchbacks ever produced. Its willing 1.6-litre engine, sharp chassis, and lightweight construction made it the benchmark for driver engagement in the 1980s, and it remains a touchstone for the genre to this day. Finding well-preserved, original examples is becoming increasingly difficult.
This 1988 example has been in its current ownership for two years, during which time the vendor reports no work has been required beyond routine MOT testing. Stored indoors, the vendor describes the exterior as being in great condition with only the odd stone chip one might expect for a car of this age, noting just a small crack in the plastic of the rear reflector strip. The underside is said to be in equally fine fettle. Inside, the vendor notes the cabin is in mint condition and retains its 1980s character.
Mechanically, the engine is reported to start first time with no known issues, and the vendor states the car drives superbly. Reportedly accompanying the vehicle are service records and paperwork from previous owners, adding welcome provenance to an increasingly sought-after modern classic.
