The Background
With a change of ownership in 1986 to Peter Wheeler, TVR were heading one way, which was more up market. Using larger engines and more luxurious interiors made them more prestigious, but also raised the prices. With prices higher there was a need for a lower priced model, which is when the TVR S was launched, later given the designation S1 following the release of the later S2 and S3 models.
Constructed from fibreglass with a tubular steel frame chassis, the S1 uses Ford's 2.8 litre V6 Cologne, which has Bosch fuel injection. The chassis design uses a central backbone to house the propshaft and gearbox. The front suspension is made up of unequal wishbones which has been a TVR favoured design for many years, and at the rear is a semi-trailing arm.
The design is good, but some weight transfer under braking and acceleration can unbalance the TVR, which can make for a very interesting drive.

The History
The TVR was used quite happily for many years by a number of owners since. It was put back on the road and is believed to have spent some years in the south of France before coming back to the UK in 2016/2017, which would explain the very clean underside, thanks to the nice warm climate.
In the past six months the TVR has had a full comprehensive check over by a TVR specialist, with parts replaced as required, to ensure that the car is ready for the new keeper. There has also been a new mohair roof fitted.
The Paperwork
The V5 is present and shows there have been 8 previous keepers.
The TVR comes with some extensive history for parts and work carried out on the car over the years. The latest invoice was from six months ago by a TVR specialist with the total bill coming to over £6,000.
The vendor will have a new MOT put on the car for the winning bidder.
The Interior
Inside the TVR is in lovely condition, with the grey leather seats showing just the slightest amount of patina to the driver’s seat with some creasing of the leather, and a small amount of wear to the bolster. The passenger seat has had less use and is therefore not as worn.
The dashboard is finished in matching grey leather which runs into the centre console. The gauges are all reported to be working as they should, with the odometer showing the mileage of 68,518. A Kenwood CD head unit is fitted for the in-car entertainment.
The carpets have been replaced along with the mohair roof and so both are in excellent condition. The boot area is clean and tidy, with the spare wheel to the left covered by the original cover.
The Exterior
The TVR is finished in a similar colour to Champagne Silver, and is in excellent condition for the mileage and year. Starting at the front, there are a few age related chips, but definitely less than you would expect for the age. The headlights and indicators are free from any cracks, and the bonnet looks to align as it should with the rest of the car.
To the sides, the car looks fantastic, with no noticeable chips to be seen to the fibreglass body, and the doors are uniform to both sides. The windows are in good condition with no scratches to point out, and the seals are also in good condition. The mohair roof has been recently replaced, which fits nice and tight when closed.
Around to the rear, and the light lenses have no splits or cracks. The boot lid looks to line up correctly. There are a few light scratches on the boot lid and the edge of the boot. The bumper is free from any scuffs.
Rolling on the original wheels, which are in good condition with no corrosion to be seen on the faces, there is a small amount of tarnishing which should polish out with a spot of elbow grease.
The tyres are in good condition with some wear, but plenty of tread remaining for the new keeper.
The Mechanics
Fitted with Ford’s 2.8 litre V6, the TVR starts up just as you would expect, and the fuel injected 2.8 is reported to sound just as it should with no untoward noises to be heard. During the recent inspection, a new radiator has been fitted, along with a full service which included spark plugs, HT leads, distributor cap, new tappets and belts, ensuring everything is just right.
Bringing the TVR to a halt, the brakes are reported to be working correctly, stopping the TVR in a straight line. There are new wheel cylinders and the brake fluid has been replaced. There were many more items replaced, all of which are listed in the paperwork.
The Appeal
A chance to own a rare Series One TVR, and one that's just been given the all clear, after spending £6,000 on the British classic.
Certainly one for the collectors of TVR’s or British 2 seaters, this is ready to use or admire, or why not even both!
