The Appeal
‘Show winning’ and ‘concours car’ are oft-overused words in the classic car world. But here, for once, they genuinely apply.
This four-keeper, 37,250 mile Mk2 GTI is exceptional. Highly original - the LE90E Alpine White paintwork and panels are all unrestored - and with a level of detail that will impress both dedicated Car & Classic visitors and concours judges, this car is amongst the best of Volkswagen’s second generation Golfs that we’ve seen in a very long while.
We recommend checking the photographs carefully to understand the depth of this car’s quality. Lovely details abound, whether it is the tiny rubber spoiler grommets - not often seen on one of these - or the rare Vortex cassette storage system.
The car has been with the current enthusiast keeper since 2009. He has averaged only 400 miles per year, reserving the car for shows where it has picked up numerous awards. It has been serviced regularly with recent work incluidng a cambelt and water pump change. The MOT runs to September 2025 and naturally there are no advisories.
Mk2 Golf GTis this good do not come to market often. This is one for the collectors and the most fastidious of buyers.
The vendor says:
“The car is an extremely rare, all-genuine, unrestored MK2 , I have been around shows and meets for 16 years and to date, I have seen little to match it. Every part is genuine VAG which many restorations cannot replicate. Most people ask when it was restored, but it's a genuinely un-restored time capsule.
“Many family cars have matched the GTI’s once legendary performance; however, getting in and setting off still brings that special feeling which makes you smile on the worst day. It also gains much attention on the street, at the petrol station or at a show... I have car ocd. I attempt to keep it as it would have left the showroom. I once upgraded unseen dash speakers but couldn't live with it and swapped back to the originals .....find another.”
