The Alfa Romeo Spider was a popular and accessible sports car designed by Pininfarina and produced from 1966 until 1994, during which it went through minor styling changes and several engine sizes.

The car gained instant classic status when it was featured in the movie The Graduate and these days it still is instantly recognised and loved the world over.

The Veloce was the more luxurious model on offer featuring leather upholstery, electric windows and aluminium wheels. The 2.0 twin cam engine with Bosch fuel injection was the largest and most powerful engine offered which, coupled with a 5 speed gearbox, delivered a spirited and sporty driving experience with looks and style to die for.

First registered overseas, which is why the odometer has recorded Kilometres rather than Miles, it came back to the UK and has had 13 careful owners since.

During its time it spent several years as part of a large private collection until in 2019 it was purchased by the current owner, who has maintained and serviced the car regularly even though he has only used it sparingly, mainly for trips to and from the golf club which is only 3 miles away.

The car comes with a full set of keys, the V5c showing 13 owners, a year’s MOT and lots of previous MOTs and receipts for work and servicing done over the years, but this is by no means a complete service history. 

An indoor car cover is also included.

The tan leather seats still look the part and contrast the black exterior of the car nicely though they are showing considerable signs of wear and tear, or patina if you prefer.

The rest of the interior is a little tired in places, with the glove box requiring some attention, but it is all original and complete and will doubtless clean up nicely as there are no cracks in the dashboard or elsewhere to be found. The carpets all look pretty good but the inside of the hood is fairly stained and could do with a good steam cleaning.

There’s an aftermarket Kenwood stereo fitted, which doesn’t currently work, and the electric windows work, but are a bit slow, 

The original speedometer KPH face has been replaced with one that reads MPH, but the original face is included, and it should be noted that the odometer still records kilometres rather than miles (107,956 kms).

The door cards are nice and overall the interior is in good to fair original condition throughout.

The original black paint is still in fairly nice condition but does feature the usual stone chips, and some minor scratches and dings around the car. The bumpers are straight but do have several scratches and scuffs but most of the chrome trim is still nice and free from too much pitting.

You’ll also find parts on the body where the paint is beginning to oxidise and bubble and the rear spoiler looks like it has seen better days but could be perhaps revived with a good clean and some treatment. 

There’s an unfortunate dent in the boot lid and some rust to be found around the windscreen, along with a fairly rusted rear lower valance, which could do with replacing.

All the wheels are nice and free from any damage or corrosion and are all shod with serviceable tyres.

The black hood needs a good clean and it should be noted that there is a tear in the rear plastic window.

Although lacking a full service history the overall condition of the car suggests frequent servicing and care. The car had a full-service last May, and a new centre bearing on the propshaft has also recently been fitted. Both front footwell floors have been replaced so the floor is now good and solid, and the car will come with new brake back plates, which have been purchased but not fitted.

The car is reported to run and drive well with no issues to be made aware of.

Probably one of Pininfarina’s best designs the Alfa Romeo still looks great and stylish on the road today, and is a very useable and desirable classic car, with a great sounding engine and heaps of that undeniable Italian charm.
