The Appeal
To anyone who has driven one, the X1/9 is just about as much fun as you can have whilst flying 3in off the ground. There are go-karts that are less engaging and direct than Fiat’s midget Ferrari, mid-engined marvel.
The trouble is that while the X1/9 is one of the greatest real-world sports of all time, it is as fragile as it is fun. So good, unmolested survivors are a rare find, yet that is exactly what we have here.
This gorgeous Mica Red Bertone-built Gran Finale has covered just 34,000 miles from new in the hands of two keepers. The current keeper, the vendor’s father, acquired it in 1993 and we are told adored it - but then check the photos and you can instantly tell that. The bodywork is highly preserved and that wear-prone Alcantara interior looks barely used. This is good news for the buyer because replacing or retrimming those seats is virtually impossible.
The car benefits from a recent £2,500 of recommissioning work. This included new clutch master and slave cylinders, brake calipers and hoses and a replacement fuel pump. Full details are shown in the photos.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the car carries a lengthy MOT to September 2026 with no advisories. X1/9s are rare arrivals on the market and this one must be amongst the best of the handful of survivors.
The vendor says:
“My father described his beloved Fiat X1/9 as a real head-turner and the most fun he had ever had in a car. As an engineer, he loved its performance, excellent handling, interesting engineering, and the feeling of motoring either in the open or snug under cover.”
