On a drive through Suffolk in 1984 Bentley engineering director Mike Dunne found his Mulsanne Turbo roundly outclassed by a Ford Escort. In the face of management resistence he resolved to give the firm’s big SZ saloon the cornering ability to match the straight line urge. The resulting Turbo R did exactly that. Bentley expected to sell few but, fuelled by fawning press reviews, it became the firm’s biggest seller. 

The later cars like this one got a power hike to 328bhp and some styling tweaks, including the classic quartet of headlights. This 1990 Turbo R is finished in the rare combination of Vermillion over Magnolia hide with St James Red piping and upper leather panelwork. It is a low mileage car that comes with a particularly large history file and a recent MOT valid until March 2027.
