  • Low mileage example, just 80,000km
  • Previously part of a collection
  • Used very little over the past 3 years
  • Soft top roof works as it should

The Appeal

With an elegant, timeless shape, the Jaguar XJS is a truly adored classic. And when the 5.3-litre V12 engine is thrown under the bonnet, the adoration the automotive community has grows further.

This example currently living near the Franco-Italian border has spent much of its life within the same collection. In fact, it only left its first home in 2017 and has since been kept in a garage having covered very few miles. The odometer reads 80,000km after 33 years spanning two owners and is surely ready to give its next owner a good time.

Both inside and out, this model is in remarkable condition and, according to the current owner, works just as it should.

History and Paperwork

  • First registered in France in 1990
  • Original collector owner owned the car until 2017
  • Purchased by current owner in 2017 in reportedly excellent condition
  • Used very little over the past 3 years
  • Little maintenance history from the past 3 years
  • Low mileage, just 80,000km on the clock
  • Currently registered in France with French registration paperwork
  • Several invoices from recent work done

The Interior

  • Leather seats frequently treated, well preserved
  • Several optional extras
  • Bright cream leather specification looks gorgeous

Perfectly contrasting the darker exterior colour of this 1990 Jaguar XJS is a sumptuous cream leather cabin. The door cards, seats and parts of the dashboard and centre console trim all draw attention to themselves thanks to their bright colour. Throughout the rest of the interior, one will find shades of grey, black and plenty of wood trim.

Every surface in this vehicle is seemingly in excellent shape. The current owner informs us that the seats have frequently undergone leather preservation treatment. The rest of this cabin also looks fabulous. The black dashboard top shows no signs of cracking, the wood trim appears to shine excellently, and intricate pieces of chrome trim look great.

Grey carpet covers much of the floor as well as the rear storage compartment found behind the seats.

Several bits of tech surely improve this car’s useability and luxury. Electric windows, an up-to-date Blaupunkt stereo, air conditioning, an electrically operated soft top roof feature, cruise control and heated and massaging seats all feature in this car.

The Exterior

  • Elegant XJ body design
  • Paintwork looks near-immaculate
  • Soft top roof works as it should

An unnecessarily long bonnet, a stylish headlight shape, excellent chrome usage and a gorgeous side profile. There’s no denying the Jaguar XJ is one of the most elegant designs of its era.

This particular car, thanks to a very well-preserved body and paintjob, is certainly a brilliant example. The dark grey paintjob is complimented by red and white pinstriping along the side of the car, showing off the car’s continuous lines. We struggle to spot many imperfections in the paint, and the owner themselves points out the lack of marks or scratches.

Akin to the rest of the car’s exterior, the soft top roof looks to be in fantastic condition. In its fully reclined position, a cover comes with the car to protect the exposed headlining.

The wheels also seem to be in good condition. They are fitted with a full set of matching Pirelli tyres.

Underneath, the owner points out a few minor signs of wear and tear, but nothing one wouldn’t expect from a car of this age.

The Mechanics

  • 5.3-litre V12, 286hp
  • Car starts easily
  • A lot of work gone into the car

Under the vast bonnet of this 1990 Jag XJS sits the range-topping 5.3-litre V12. This thunderous motor originating from 1960’s Le Mans sportscar racing is good for 286hp in the XJS, plenty for motorway cruising. In fact, this example fitted with the 3-speed automatic transmission is surely destined to render long journeys a comfortable and sophisticated affair.

Invoices included in with the car show lots of previous work that has gone into the car. Everything from the differential to the exhaust, spark plugs and starting system have received attention over the past few thousand kilometres. As a result, the car starts easily according to the owner and “gives full driving satisfaction.”

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
