The Appeal
The XJ40, such was the way of British Leyland, was a long time in the making but was certainly worth the wait. Cleverly updating the style of the original XJ6, adding advanced technology and improving the build quality created a car that appealed to the traditionalists as well as much-needed new buyers.
For a long while the XJ40 got lost between the earlier and later cars. But enthusiasts are returning to them and values are responding. After all, the essentials of this car were so good that they underpinned all Jaguar saloons right into the new Millennium.
This very well preserved 1990 example is a well specified car with the desirable 4litre AJ6 engine and exceptionally rare manual gearbox. The bodywork and interior reflect the low mileage and obvious care of the owners. With good service history and ASI certification, this car shows just why the XJ40 is garnering renewed appreciation.
