The Appeal
It was named after a famous two-tone Chinese bear, but really, the Panda 4x4 should have paid homage to Alpine Ibex, Italy’s famed mountain goat. Light, rugged and nimble it proved adept at surmounting the sort of rocky terrain familiar to the nation’s rural farmers.
The Sisley special edition moved away from the 4x4’s egalitarian theme to give buyers something more stylish and luxurious. It was a huge success and good, factory-standard examples with all their original features remain in high demand. Which is why we really like this 1990 example.
First registered in Italy in April 1991, it is finished in its original Verde Tropico 377/F, the colour most closely associated with the Sisley, and the vendor reports that the interior remains entirely original, having been professionally detailed rather than replaced. The cabin retains the period character that makes these cars so appealing.
Beneath the surface, the car has received a very extensive mechanical recommissioning. The list of work is substantial, covering the suspension, braking system, driveline, cooling system, electrics and more, with many components replaced outright. Model-specific exterior trim has been renewed with parts sourced from Italy, where such items are becoming increasingly scarce.
Now registered as a historic vehicle in Poland and accompanied by a large file of invoices and documentation, this Panda 4x4 Sisley presents a compelling opportunity. It is a car that combines genuine collectibility with real-world usability, and it comes with a substantial set of spare parts for the next custodian's peace of mind.
