The Appeal
Before the MX5, TVR filled the market gap left by the MGB’s demise with the S, a simple, retro-themed roadster inspired by the firm’s classic 3000S. Initially, these cars got the Cologne V6, but TVR, being TVR, it couldn’t resist dialling things up a notch or six by dropping its grumbly 3.9L 240bhp V8 beneath the sculptural bonnet.
Just 436 were built - some say 408 - and spotting one is made even harder by the subtle alterations compared to the V6 cars. A slight bonnet bulge and V8 rear badging differentiate these cars. This example is an early one, attractively finished in dark blue metallic with a matching ‘Surrey’ style folding roof and a cream leather interior.
The car has been little used since 2018 but will be sold with a new MOT prior to sale. Before being stored it amassed a vast history file, including 24 main dealer and specialist stamps to 2017 and 94,079 miles. It has covered very few miles since. We’re told that the all-important outriggers have been replaced.
The V8S is one of British motoring’s rarest and most potent two-seaters. This car fits a lineage that includes the Austin Healey, TR5 and perhaps even the AC Cobra. For the right buyer, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of these charismatic cars.
