The Appeal

A little-known fact is that Morgan was the first sports car manufacturer to utilise the inimitable Rover V8 - a compact all-alloy unit originally developed by General Motors. The Plus 8 was a seminal car for Morgan and its immense popularity is often credited with saving the company.
We’re delighted to offer this cherished example which has remained in single-family ownership from new. Acquired by the vendor’s father in 1992 from Allon White Sports Cars, this Plus 8 has been enjoyed sparingly over the years, covering just 14,016 miles.

In 2018, it passed into the hands of the vendor who has recently subjected it for recommissioning and MOT testing following several years of laying dormant in dry storage. Mechanically healthy, delightfully original and sporting a pleasing patina, this much-loved Morgan awaits its next custodian.

The History and Paperwork

  • Acquired by the vendor’s father brand new - a lifelong Morgan enthusiast
  • Supplied and initially serviced by Allon White Sports Cars
  • Serviced in 1993, 1994, 1997, 2000 by Allon White
  • Just 14,016 miles indicated
  • MOT valid until 16th July 2024
  • Dry-stored since new
  • Used sparingly throughout its life
  • Unused for some time following its c.2015 service
  • Recently recommissioned (August 2023)
  • V5C present and displaying one previous keeper (the vendor’s father)
  • Copy of an original Plus 8 handbook
  • Selection of original supplying paperwork
  • Collection of old MOT certificates
  • Well-stamped original service book

The Condition

  • Special order green paintwork - believed to be a Jaguar colour
  • OEM alloy wheels all in very good condition
  • Complete with its folwing hood, which we’re informed has seen very little use
  • Light marks, scratches and chips can be found in various places around the bodywork, as befits an unrestored, original car of this vintage
  • The nearside rear wings bears a few scuffs and minor denting
  • The vendor informs us that the seat bases and roof cover suffer slightly from rodent damage, although there’s certainly nothing excessive to report
  • The upholstery presents well, with no heavy wear apparent
  • The dashboard is delaminating slightly, but this does not detract from its overall appearance
  • We understand all the controls and switchgear to be in good working order
  • The underside presents well, benefitting from sparing use and dry storage throughout the car’s life
  • The rear bumper is a little misshapen
  • The board behind the driver’s seat which covers the battery is missing

The Mechanics

  • 3.9-litre Rover V8
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • The vendor reports that it now runs beautifully, sounds amazing and drives very well indeed
  • Advisory-free current MOT
Maulden Garage carried out a thorough service in August 2023 as follows:

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
