The Appeal
Unveiled at the 1990 Paris Motor Show, the Renault Clio was introduced as the long-awaited successor to the hugely popular Renault 5. While it retained elements of its predecessor's proven underpinnings, the Clio arrived with entirely new bodywork, a more modern cabin and a noticeably more sophisticated feel, helping it to quickly establish itself as one of the standout superminis of the era. More than three decades later, its clean and uncluttered styling has aged remarkably well, particularly on higher-specification models such as this example, complete with the characteristically Gallic yellow-tinted front fog lamps.
Renault offered the Clio in a wide variety of trim levels and engine configurations, with the RT sitting towards the upper end of the range. As such, it benefitted from a generous equipment list for the period, including remote central locking, electric front windows and a glass sunroof. Power comes from the dependable 1.4-litre engine, which offers noticeably more effortless performance than the smaller-capacity units fitted to many contemporary examples.
Offered for sale by its original owner, this 1992 Renault Clio 1.4 RT represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire an unmodified and highly original example of one of the defining European superminis of the 1990s. Requiring little more than an MOT test before returning to the road, it stands as a charming survivor from an era of straightforward and characterful motoring.

Lovely, lovely car. Must be only a handful left in the UK in this condition. I wonder if you could please offer some clarity on why it was parked up, and what’s happened to it in the last 6 years? Has it moved/started at all etc? The listing says “just needs an MOT” but it would be helpful to know if there’s anything you are aware of that would stop it from getting one. Thank you, and very best of luck.
