Unveiled at the 1990 Paris Motor Show, the Renault Clio was introduced as the long-awaited successor to the hugely popular Renault 5. While it retained elements of its predecessor's proven underpinnings, the Clio arrived with entirely new bodywork, a more modern cabin and a noticeably more sophisticated feel, helping it to quickly establish itself as one of the standout superminis of the era. Renault offered the Clio in a wide variety of trim levels and engine configurations, with the RT sitting towards the upper end of the range. Power comes from the dependable 1.4-litre engine, which offers noticeably more effortless performance than the smaller-capacity units fitted to many contemporary examples.
