The Appeal

The Toyota Land Cruiser LJ70 is revered among off-road enthusiasts for its reliability, mechanical simplicity, and go-anywhere capability. This 1992 example represents a balance of original Toyota engineering with thoughtful expedition-focused modifications. Having completed a 10,000-mile round trip to southern Mali and extensive off-road exploration in Iceland, this Land Cruiser has proven itself in some of the world's most challenging environments.
This LJ70 has been prepared for serious overland travel with modifications focused on reliability, capability, and self-sufficiency. From the Warrior Spartan winch to the custom rear storage system, every addition has been made with purpose. The current owner has maintained the vehicle with future expeditions in mind, even securing a donor front end for potential restoration work.

For anyone planning their own adventure, this Land Cruiser offers a solution with a proven track record.

History and Paperwork

  • 162,169 miles
  • In current ownership since 2016
  • Recently passed MOT with only two small patches of welding required
  • Comprehensive service history with detailed timeline of modifications and maintenance
  • Documented expedition history including 10,000-mile West Africa trip and Iceland exploration
The vendor offers the following timeline of their ownership:
  • Bought in 2016 before spending the next year preparing for a trip down to West Africa with my father, including rear storage, winch and roof tent. Removed the spacers and arches alongside a new set of steels rims and MT tyres
  • 2017: 10,000-mile round trip to southern Mali and back: no issues and fantastic vehicle for such a trip
  • 2019: shipped to Iceland for a month driving around is the island
  • Snorkel and solar panel (not the most aesthetically pleasing decision!) installed alongside an additional battery, and light bar (with the 24-hour daylight not really needed) Again, no issues at all and proved the perfect vehicle for 4 weeks of off-road exploring
  • 2020: with plans to do a full refurb and many future trips I bought the front end of another LJ70 so that sections could be welded in to potentially replace any rusted areas during refurb process. Both put into dry garage storage
  • 2025: having taken a job in Australia, I’ve decided to sell and hoping someone else can use it for their own epic trips
  • 2025: MOT passed, two small patches of welding needed. New battery installed (some photos and videos taken recently but before new battery)
