Photos provided by the vendor

Highlights

  • Rare MK2 G33 with Ford Engine
  • One of only 98 G33s ever built
  • Registered in the Netherlands
  • Highly original

The Appeal

Introduced in 1990, the Ginetta G33 was a very stylish piece of the British manufacturer’s product range - and one that quickly gained a reputation as a rebel on the road. Lightweight, and packed with some pretty hefty machinery, these cars weren’t the most refined Roadsters around, but certainly some of the most exciting.
Only 98 were reported as ever being manufactured, and it wasn’t until 1993 that the MK2 arrived - intended to be a slightly more cost-effective car to build. This included the tried-and-tested 4-cylinder Ford; though only 4 of these are known to have been constructed.
This is one of those examples. Surely that’s enough to pique your interest already?

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in 1993
  • European example with left hand drive and km odometer
  • Originally supplied to the Belgian market
  • Imported and registered in the Netherlands in 1998
  • 3 owners from new, of which the vendor is the third
  • APK expires in September 2023
  • Currently indicates 20,800km on a five-figure odometer
  • Sadly this can’t be fully verified as an authentic mileage
  • Paperwork file includes:
    • Original registration documents for both 1993 and 1998
    • Inspection certificate from 1999
    • A rare collector’s edition of Ginetta: The Inside Story by Bob Walklett

The Interior

  • Lightweight interior with mixed vinyl and fabric seats in tan
  • Seats are free of rips and tears, though do show creasing
  • A small stain is visible on the driver’s seat bolster
  • Dashboard in good order with some age-commensurate wear
  • All instruments are clean and easy to read with no major wear
  • Steering wheel shows some rubbing and loss of texture, but otherwise presents well
  • Centre console shows some wear
  • This includes what looks like a blue tape repair on the right-hand side
  • Fitted with a Golf-ball gearstick knob
  • Fabric door cards show some wear and sagging throughout
  • Carpets are in fair condition though do show some staining and markets
  • Interior window attachments show some wear and perishing
  • The passenger-side footwell includes a fire-extinguisher
  • Boot is in good order, though could do with a clean

The Exterior

  • Repainted circa 2020, with photos available
  • Plastic body in good order with no major wear we can spot
  • Paintwork carries some superficial damage but is largely in good order
  • Glasswork and lenses in good order with no cracks or chips
  • All Ginetta branding is present and correct
  • Standard wear to the lower areas of the car’s body, commensurate with age
  • Car is sat on the original alloys with Ginetta branding
  • Wearing a full set of Continental tyres, which are looking worn
  • Car’s underside is largely clean and well-kept with light wear
  • Some light surface corrosion to the springs
  • The car has side-windows, but no fabric soft-top
  • However, the car is supplied with a home-made tonneau cover

The Mechanics

  • Powered by the lesser-seen Ford 1.8L I4 powerplant
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • Engine bay looks in good order overall
  • We’ve no reports of any mechanical modifications
  • The car is reportedly starting, running and handling well with no faults
  • We’ve been informed of no leaks, bangs or smoke from the engine bay
  • Car has recently been serviced, and fitted with a new timing belt and battery

Summary

The G33 is a rare beast, but the Ford-engined units are the rarest of all. This one looks to be in fine fettle and should make for an utterly superb example of the much-loved (and wild) British Roadster

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
