1993 Mercedes-Benz MB 100

Highlights

• Only two owners from new
• “One of the best on the market”
• Original condition throughout

The Background

The second-generation MB 100 was introduced in 1987, representing the first time these Spanish-built vehicles were sold in the rest of Northern Europe. Available in numerous formats including minibuses, pick-ups, tippers and more, the MB100 was aimed at small businesses, and offered as an extension of the existing Daimler-Benz commercial vehicle range.
Power for the MB100 came from the 2.4 litre OM616 diesel inline-four producing around 76bhp, and as a result of their commercial nature and ‘workhorse’ image, very few MB100’s of the era survive in a presentable state to this day, making enthusiast-owned vehicles such as this a rare find indeed.

The History

First registered in Germany on 04-08-1993, this MB-100 pickup was registered to a sole craftsman as their day-to-day transport and workhorse for their roofing company, a duty which it continued until 1996, at which time it was privately purchased by the individual, who continued to maintain and enjoy the vehicle as an enthusiast.
In 2016, the vehicle was imported into Belgium, with every possible step being made towards pre-registering the car for Belgium roads, including a BE-MoT exam which showed no advisory items.

The Paperwork

Included with the vehicle are the original part-stamped service record, German registration documents and clean TUV certificate, Belgian pre-registration documents and BE-MoT exam with no advisories, official tow-bar document, original Mercedes-Benz handbook and other miscellaneous paperwork.
The vendor notes that the service record is likely so sparse as the books are hidden up underneath the dash, meaning they were likely never stamped. That said, the vehicle appears to be in fantastic order and was likely cherished even if the record does not show this.

The Interior

The cabin of this 100D has evidently stood the test of time well, and has clearly been used gently by the previous owner despite its commercial applications, as the condition is simply fantastic for a nigh-on 30-year-old commercial vehicle.
There is, naturally, some wear to high-traffic areas such as the dashboard edges, steering wheel, seat bases and door cards, but this is remarkably minimal given the vehicle’s age and mileage.
As far as our vendor is aware, all systems are functioning as intended, with no electrical issues or warning lights reported.

The Exterior

On the outside, the rich blue bodywork and matching ‘ Mercedes-Benz Classics’ soft cover for the rear load area are both in fantastic condition, and have clearly been kept in such a condition by a fastidious owner and enthusiast.
As far as we can see, there are no signs of any impact or accident damage to the bodywork, and no obviously misaligned panels, dents, dings or visible scratches, though no doubt there will be one or two usage marks - such as stone chips - visible up close.
Impressively, even the exposed plastic bumpers, wheels, light lenses, trim pieces and folding load sides are also in excellent shape - it really does beggar belief that this example has covered over 120,000km!

The Mechanicals

Underneath, the frame looks to be in excellent condition, with only some light surface ‘bloom’ and flaking paint giving evidence of the vehicle having been used regularly in a past life, though it has seen minimal use since being imported to Belgium in 2016.
That said, our vendor reports that this 100D is in rude mechanical health, with the engine “sounding like it is new” and showing no signs of any odd behaviours, untoward noises or warning lights.
The five-speed transmission is also said to be in full working order.
The only suggestion our vendor does have, however, is that the tyres would likely benefit from replacement, simply due to their age and the prolonged period of inactivity.

The Appeal

Enthusiast-owned commercial vehicles are a rare find, especially from the latter part of the 21st century, with vehicles from this era still being too new to be ‘classic’ and therefore often escaping the attention of those wishing to preserve them.
This 1993-registered, second-generation 100D is evidently an exception to the rule, having been cherished and fastidiously cared-for by the previous owner, and having undergone both a BE-MoT and German TUV test with no advisory items or reported issues.
If commercial vehicles are your passion, you’ll want to be bidding on this - good luck!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
