The Appeal
Hailing from the golden era of Toyota Land Cruisers, the 80 Series was undoubtably one of the greatest off-road vehicles ever made. Introducing full-time four-wheel-drive (for most markets), and ushering in a new generation of diesel engines, the J80 proved, tough, reliable, and versatile, accruing a legendary status around the globe that's arguably yet to be equalled.
This 1993 example is a rare original survivor, boasting a lofty VX specification and equipped with the well-regarded 4.2-litre 1HD-T inline-six turbodiesel. It's been with the same family since 1995, during which time it has spent most of its time dry-stored, performing occasional light duties and benefitting from an excellent service history.
Approximately £5,000 in recent work has covered mechanical, suspension, and comfort systems, including a timing belt replacement, steering repairs with renewed steering wheel swivels, and replacement front hub and wheel bearing. Further work addressed the rear anti-roll bar linkages, driveshaft gaskets, a full air conditioning overhaul (pipes, compressor, seals, and re-gas), plus tint removal and servicing of the electric window mechanism.
These vehicles were built to work hard, and oh-boy did they... Many were (quite literally) run into the ground, so this lightly used and judiciously maintained example is not to be missed. This venerable old workhorse is an essential addition to any driveway. The MOT runs until February 2026.
