The Appeal
What buyers often hope to find is a vehicle where someone else has done all the hard work and, crucially, spent all the necessary money. This smart Pepper White Defender is exactly that kind of Land Rover. It was restored over two years between 2014 and 2016, but thanks to dry storage and a mere 800 miles since, it arrives with the buyer pretty much as it was on the day it was completed.
The work has been done very sympathetically. This 90 TDI straddles the line neatly between workhorse and style icon. Outside it has been repainted in Pepper White with black trim, the body sitting on a new galvanised chassis and bulkhead. Inside the interior has been retrimmed in two-tone black and white leather with cream Alcantara headlining. Comfort features include a touch screen infotainment system and Momo wheel.
The work was commissioned by the Defender’s long-term keeper, who tells us that he acquired it in 2007. Initially, it was used as a business workhorse, maintained by its own mechanics, before leading a more sedate life. In January 2026, the MOT was renewed, with no advisories, and the engine was serviced.
A tastefully reworked and improved classic Defender with few miles since its vast restoration.
The vendor says:
“By all accounts, our Landy started life as the escort vehicle on the Dartford river crossing. Is this true. I do not know for sure but that is what the person who sold it to me told me in 2007.
“It was used by us on our small holding, fetching and carrying. Running a transport business at the time, it was looked after by our workshop mechanics until it became increasingly more difficult to keep it on the road.
“As we had since moved on from our small holding, we didn't need a Land Rover except for moving muddy dogs, so we decided we had two choices. Sell it on as an original but tired Landy with a bleak future or rebuild it as a 'Vanity project.’ This is the result!”
