The Appeal
When Britain’s oldest car maker decided to branch out from building Cobra continuation cars, the result was the Brooklands Ace, named after the circuit that hosted the firm’s factory and the illustrious car that birthed the 60s snake. It was a bold and committed project, featuring a stainless steel chassis designed by GT40 guru Len Bailey, a sculptural aluminium body designed by IAD and a 4.9L V8 Mustang engine.
As with many such small-volume, bespoke sports car projects, the economics didn’t quite add up, and just 58 cars were built between 1993 and 2000. 46 of them were ‘Series 1’ cars like this, all built just before AC imploded in 1996. This silver metallic car is amongst the last of those, one of just 35 or perhaps 40 built with the desirable 5-speed manual Borg Warner gearbox.
In the intervening 31 years, the car has amassed just 27,000 miles in the hands of just three keepers, the current one since 2001. As you would expect, it remains in very good order, the blue leather cabin being particularly tidy. The history file supports the low mileage. The distinctive ‘ACE’ private plate is included.
Few British GTs are as rare or are attached to such an illustrious name as this very smart Brooklands Ace. One not to miss.
