The Appeal

The XJS was launched in 1975 and had the unenviable task of following the E-Type as the sporting pinnacle of the prestigious Jaguar range. The XJS was originally only available with the 5.3L V12 engine carried over from the E-Type. This made for a rapid but far from economical British GT car. Later, of course, different variations of engine and body style followed. The full convertible being the last addition to the range, appearing in 1988.
This left-hand drive 4.0L automatic model has been personally imported from dry and benign climate of California by the current owner. As such the car is reported to be rust free and in an excellent and totally original overall condition. It is ready to use and enjoy for the summer and, as a left-hand drive car, would lend itself to re-export to a number of overseas territories or continue to be used in the UK.

Summary

The XJ-S Convertibles from the latter part of its production life are prized for being better built and engineered with any earlier problems fully iron out under Ford’s diligent ownership. The 4.0L version of the car is often considered as the pick of the range. It was usefully powerful but lighter and more agile and offered the best economy to performance quotient.

This example benefits from being entirely original and in an excellent overall condition. Those two variables are rarely available together in cars on this vintage. The Flamenco Red livery with Cashmere hued hood makes this a real head turner. The car’s mechanical condition is also reported as excellent and is further verified by the long, advisory free MOT. Available to drive and enjoy this summer and for, likely, many more summers to come.
