The Appeal

There are broadly two ways to approach a Range Rover Classic restomod. One is to preserve as much of the original mechanical package as possible. The other is to retain the unmistakable appearance and character of the Classic while improving the way the car actually performs in modern traffic.

This Range Rover was built firmly according to the latter philosophy. Commissioned approximately five years ago by a Warsaw lawyer and partner in a law firm, the project was entrusted to a Polish specialist with more than a decade of experience restoring and rebuilding Range Rover Classics.

Rather than carrying out a cosmetic refurbishment, the builders started from the ground up. The body, chassis and mechanical package were comprehensively addressed, with the unusual decision made to combine a Range Rover Classic body with the chassis and running gear of a Discovery 2 4.0 V8. The result is arguably the best of both worlds.

From the outside, it retains the clean, wonderfully upright shape that has made the Range Rover Classic such an enduring design icon. Underneath, however, sits the later Land Rover architecture, bringing substantially more modern suspension, braking and everyday usability.

This is not merely a showpiece. Since completion, the car has covered approximately 80,000 km, demonstrating that the concept works in real-world use. It is a thoroughly developed, proven restomod that can be driven and enjoyed rather than treated as an unfinished project requiring further sorting.

“This Range Rover offers something quite different from both an original Classic and the increasingly common freshly completed restomod. It retains the appearance that made the original Range Rover one of the most important 4x4 designs ever produced, while replacing much of the ageing mechanical architecture underneath with proven Discovery 2 components. The result is a Range Rover Classic that can genuinely be used: V8-powered, comfortable, air-conditioned and considerably more modern to drive than its appearance suggests.

“And perhaps most importantly, it has already been driven approximately 80,000 km since the conversion. For a buyer looking for a classic Range Rover to actually travel in rather than simply admire in a collection, that may be its strongest recommendation.”

“The vehicle is registered in Poland as a 1995 Land Rover Range Rover. The Polish government vehicle history also records regular technical inspections over recent years.

“The comprehensive restomod conversion was commissioned around five years ago and undertaken by a Polish company specialising in Range Rover Classic restoration. Importantly, the car has subsequently been used extensively rather than remaining a low-mileage demonstration build. Around 80,000 kilometres have been covered since the restoration/restomod was completed. A service label under the bonnet records an oil service in December 2024, using Motul X-Clean 5W40.”

“The body retains the unmistakable proportions of the five-door Range Rover Classic and is finished in a dark metallic green that suits the design particularly well.

“The overall approach is deliberately understated. Rather than turning the car into an overtly modified off-roader, the builders retained the visual identity of the Classic, complementing it with later Land Rover alloy wheels and subtly updated lighting.

“The combination gives the car a particularly convincing stance: recognisably classic, but without feeling fragile or dated.

“As a car that has covered a meaningful mileage since restoration, it should be viewed as a well-sorted driver rather than an unused concours restoration. This is very much part of its appeal: the car was built to travel.

“The cabin is one of the highlights of the conversion. It was comprehensively retrimmed in high-quality light leather, covering the seats, centre console, lower dashboard and door trim. Contrasting dark upper dashboard sections and wood trim retain the traditional Range Rover atmosphere. Particular attention was also given to areas frequently overlooked during restorations. The headlining has been completely trimmed in leather, creating a particularly upmarket environment.”

“The air-conditioning system is notably effective and all major comfort equipment is reported to be operational.

“Underneath the classic bodywork is the key to what makes this car different. The build uses Discovery 2 4.0 V8 underpinnings, including the chassis, suspension and braking system. The 3,950cc petrol V8 is paired with an automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive.

“The later chassis was chosen deliberately. A standard Range Rover Classic is extremely charismatic but, by modern standards, its braking, suspension and general road manners inevitably reveal its age. The Discovery 2 platform considerably modernises that experience while retaining the traditional Rover V8 character. The car also benefits from rear air suspension, giving it the ride quality and versatility associated with later Land Rover products. The system is operational. The official Polish registration records the V8 at 3,950cc and 135kW.

“Most significantly, the mechanical package is no longer an experiment. With approximately 80,000 km driven since the project was completed, the car has had the sort of real-world shakedown that very few newly completed restomods can claim.
