1995 Volkswagen Corrado Storm

Highlights

• Rare one year only Storm edition
• Been under the same ownership since new
• Upgraded Alpine head unit

Background

“One of the best ever drivers cars” were the words used to describe the VW Corrado by Auto Express magazine. A dynamic marvel combining outstanding dynamics and performance. The Corrado was the successor to VW's Scirocco, providing sports car-like performance and precision in a small, muscular package. Production spanned into 1995 at which point VW introduced the 1 year only run off Storm edition.
Limited to 500 numbers the Corrado Storm boasted upgraded wheels, a choice of 2 colour and interior specifications and a host of other accessories to make it stand out from the run of the mill Corrado's. Most notably, these cars sported the legendary 2.9 litre VR6 engines, and thus MK3 Golf suspension components to handle the extra power and torque compared to the smaller 1.8 litre cars.

History

This fine example has been under the same ownership since new in 1995. Originally the current owners company car, when the time came, they purchased it directly from the lease company and it has been with this same owner until now. For the majority of this time maintenance and servicing has been undertaken by the same local garage.

With the car being used less frequently at present, the owner has decided to move the vehicle on to someone who will thoroughly enjoy it.

Paperwork

The Corrado boasts an impressive folder of paperwork, including servicing and maintenance records and invoices, from Holland Park Autos, where the car has been maintained for the majority of its life. We also have the original sales brochure and price list from 1995. There is also documentation to show the installation of an Abacus Meta M99 alarm system and an upgraded Alpine head bluetooth unit.

The previous MOT certificates are present in the folder too. Whilst there isn’t a physical copy, the car has a current MOT, valid until 28th September 2022.

The Interior

In 1995 buyers could spec their Corrado Storms in one of two colour and interior combinations. Cream leather with Classic Green paintwork, or Mystic Blue paint and Black leather, this example sports the Black leather interior option. Only 250 Storms were specced like this, with the production units being split 50/50 between Green & Cream and Blue & Black models.
The lavishly equipped cabin of this car is in good condition, with the plush, body hugging seats bearing minimal wear both front and rear with strong bolsters. The leather clad door cards are similarly lacking in major wear especially considering the age of the vehicle with marking mainly contained to the lower plastic speaker sections of the trim.

The dashboard and centre console in the car are of a good standard, with some evidence of marking being seen predominantly on the sides of the centre console but still presenting excellently. Unfortunately, whilst it doesn’t have any rips or tears, the headlining is sagging in some places, it has also come loose around the sides.
Sitting proud in the dash is the Alpine bluetooth head unit, upgraded from the Sony head unit that would have originally been in the car. This is paired to a subwoofer that has been installed in the boot of the car. The boot trim and carpet fits well and is in good condition and, as well as the subwoofer, holds the spare wheel and tool kit. Unfortunately one of the cables that holds the parcel shelf has snapped, however it’s still able to be held up by the one working cable.
The leather bound 5 speed gear shifter has the wear to be expected of a 26 year old car, with the shifter surround bearing the red Storm badging to denote this from regular Corrado's. The electric sunroof opens quietly and appears leak free.

The Exterior

The Mystic Blue paintwork presents well across the lines of the car having a beautiful deep finish that complements the iconic muscular shape reminiscent of the scirocco that preceded the Corrado.
Whilst being of an excellent standard, the car’s bodywork is slightly marred by signs of wear in some areas, with scuffing and scratching showing most notably on the front bumper corners, and rear of the car.
The car sits proudly on 15” BBS alloy wheels as part of the Storm package, these are in good condition however the rear left wheel has some scuffing to the face that could benefit from refurbishment. The front colour coded grille and external red badging further indicate that the car is a Storm edition.

The Mechanics

Under the bonnet we find ourselves looking at the main reason the Corrado is so highly ranked as a great driver’s car by those in the know. The beautifully crafted VR6. The thumping 2.9 litre engine sports 188bhp and is good for 60 mph in under 7 seconds, a truly quick car even by today’s standards.
The engine fires into life effortlessly providing a beautiful tone from the exhaust, driving with fluidity through the 5 speed manual gearbox. The braking system works well, stopping the car with ease. The engine block and bay itself appear clean, although there is a small patch of surface rust on the bodywork on top of the grille surround in front of the engine.

The Appeal

Hailed as one of the greatest drivers cars of it’s time, the VW Corrado is an iconic must have car. This one made even more special being a one year only run out Storm edition, one of 250 in a beautiful shade of Mystic Blue with black leather and the glorious 2.9 litre VR6.
This wonderful example has been lovingly kept by the same owner since 1995, maintained to a high standard by the same local garage for several years, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a truly special Volkswagen.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
